I have an AM2 socket motherboard - which they stopped making CPU's for... If I wanted to play the likes of Crysis 2 / Battlefield 3 on really high graphics, would I need to upgrade my motherboard? Do you think I should just upgrade everything ??? I just replaced my old PSU and I am using it as we speak (last one whistled) OCZ 600W StealthXStream 2 ATX Power Supply Unit http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/ocz-600w- ... 3-pdt.html Do you think that this PSU will be good enough to support a new gaming rig? |

For the PSU you can usually see how many amps it outputs at each of the different voltages. Voltage * Amps = Power (watts) You can Google components (especially graphics cards) and find out how much power they draw under idle, under load etc. Then you can work out, before buying anything, just how much power the "new rig" would require, and how much your PSU can supply. |

my graphics card draws either 550 or 650w (according to the box) so u might need a new psu too depending on the card u go with... |

i use htxtp://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp to calculate power usage, it has data for the latest hardware so just select what you want to buy in the future and hit calculate. |

i was using 2 1200watt psu's for a bit. Now using a single enermax 1500. but you should be looking for 600w if you are just running a single gpu. But quality is far more important then capacity when dealing with psu's. dont scrimp on the psu. it can make a difference to sytem stability. and make sure it has 8 and 6 pin pci ex connectors for modern graphics cards |
