Im not sure if 8ms response time is good or not. I think it is.

But this is the best way of comparing TFT monitors if you plan on using it for gaming.

Basically its the time it takes to display the pixel after it gets the information from the gfx card. So lower is better.

On second thoughts, I think 8ms if very good. Go for it :)

Plays CSS fine and any other games, I'm sure 8ms is fine :)

mine is this one http://komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=311134 i can not fault it at all, perfect in every way for me is 19" and has 4ms response time, looking down the site there is a better one http://komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=317038 similar to mine i guess its an upgrade as it is also 19" but has a 2ms response time which is uber fast. i know you stated you wanted to spend £170 or less but i think it is well worth saving and paying that bit extra :D

yeah 8 is fine - go for it

mine is 6 but tbh i cant really notice the difference in response times, the colour reproduction is more important to me

Do they still do that policy where less than a certain number of dead pixles is regarded as a QA passed monitor?

Introduction
LCD displays are made up of a set number of pixels and each pixel is made from 3 sub-pixels; one Red, one Blue and one Green. Every sub-pixel is addressed by its own transistor and so the manufacture of a glass substrate is very complex. Due to the nature of the manufacturing process, occasional defects can occur. Pixel defects or failures cannot be fixed or repaired and can happen at any stage in the LCD's life.

To regulate the acceptability of defects and to protect the end user, ISO have created a standard for manufacturers to follow. ISO 13406-2 recommends how many defaults are acceptable in a display before it should be replaced, within the terms & conditions of warranty.
All reputable manufacturers conform to and support the ISO 13406-2 standard.

Pixel defaults
The table below shows the allowable number of malfunctioning pixels that are acceptable, depending on the native resolution of the LCD and allowing for 2 malfunctioning pixels per million pixels.

Native Resolution No. of Pixels No. of Million Pixels Allowable Defects
1024 x 768 786,432 0.79 2
1280 x 1024 1,310,720 1.31 3
1600 x 1200 1,920,000 1.92 4
2048 x 1536 3,145,728 3.15 6

The table below shows the allowable number of malfunctioning sub-pixels that are acceptable, depending on the native resolution of the LCD and allowing for 5 malfunctioning sub-pixels per million pixels.

Native Resolution No. of Pixels No. of Million Pixels Allowable Defects
1024 x 768 786,432 0.79 4
1280 x 1024 1,310,720 1.31 7
1600 x 1200 1,920,000 1.92 10
2048 x 1536 3,145,728 3.15 16

The table below shows the allowable number of malfunctioning sub-pixels that are acceptable within a 5 x 5 block of pixels, depending on the native resolution and allowing for 2 malfunctioning sub-pixels within a 5 x 5 block, per million pixels.

Native Resolution No. of Pixels No. of Million Pixels Allowable Sub-pixel Defects Within 5 x 5 Block
1024 x 768 786,432 0.79 2
1280 x 1024 1,310,720 1.31 3
1600 x 1200 1,920,000 1.92 4
2048 x 1536 3,145,728 3.15 6
The above is relevant to Class II LCD panels.

and from LG

Quote:
LG will replace or repair faulty screens according to the following pixel policy: 1. If there is one dead pixel in the very centre of the screen 2. If there are two dead pixels within 2cm of each other 3. If there are more than four dead pixels in the screen

Ah the good old pixel policy lmao what a crock of crap. If you brought it like i did with one of mine on a credit card send it back and tell the credit card company it was faulty :) Send it back to the company you got it from and the credit card company refund you your money. The company I got mine from got a bit funny with me saying I can't return it, its our pixel policy (mine you I did send it back to there main office address as they wouldn't give me a returns address when i call them to complain about it). I said i can return I have returned it, its my credit card policy bye bye :P Went and brought my tv from else where no dead pixels, happy man :)
