Arctic Cooling
Quote:
Thermal Compound
We ship our coolers with the ARCTIC MX-1 thermal compound. This compound hardens during the first 200h while the performance improves steadily. With heating up the paste / heatsink the process can be shortened. The performance is even from the beginning good enough to cool your CPU reliable.

tbh, i wouldn't really bother in removing the paste, just get the bugger on and enjoy the near silence of a rather cool running cpu

To get it off, just use a damp cloth. Isoclene works well (alcohol for cleaning electronics), but if not maybe white spirit if it wont come off.

Arctic silver instructions just say put about 3/4's of a bb in the middle of the cpu and let the pressure of seating the heatsink spread it. That way theres no air bubbles etc: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm
Scroll down for instructions :)

white spirit did it excelent, as for applying new stuff, just the tiniest blob (about 1 to 2 mm across) in the middle, and spread it around a bit with an old credit card. Its only needed to fill any dimples in the processor, not to entirely coat it.
