Plasma's are generally heavier than LCD. But both need a decent wall and bracket if being wall mounted.

Screen burn can occur also by channel logo's in the corners of the screen.
Some manufacturers shift the picture on bootup by a few pixels to minimize sharp edges being to burnt on the screen by logos.

Recent LCD's response times have come down dramatically, therefore they display less of the trails on fast moving objects (ie a moving football has far less comet trails / blur behind it when moving across the screen) Contrast ratio of LCD has improved so they now equal / out perform plasma's.
Viewing angles of LCD screen are still less than plasma but these have improved.

Price of LCD's is now generally lower than plasma too until you get really large

Like Jules pointed out on a small screen got for LCD ( personally I would stretch that out to anything under 50")

Just remember.. When shopping for an large screen TV dont be taken in by a demo in just one shop. Look at the same unit in different places.
I saw a LG 50" plasma the other day in a shop, the demo was a Beyonce BlueRay DVD, with huge surround sound system blasting out.... It looked awesome (so did she.. )... The competition in the shop next door had the same set but with a standard feed and the sound coming from the puny internal speakers... The whole out look of the unit was totally different.. However they had another set in a made up "demo lounge" that has sound proofing laid out how nobody (well most of us) can have their own lounge. Once again the output from the set was awesome.. Largely due to the HD input and quality surround system they were showing..

When looking at any set LCD or Plasma, make sure you get to see the performance in various input forms. ie HD, standard satellite, internal tuner analogue and digital if the set has both..

Get the volume up and see how the speakers cope with higher volumes. (shops never have the volumes set as high as a user would at home, unless they use separate system) I turned up a Technika unit in Tesco the other day, before the volume hit 50% the speakers were rattling )

Play with all functions on the set too before buying... Some shops aint got a clue on how to set a picture up. All they do is turn on and press auto adjust...

How easy it is selling sets in this false scenario fashion, only do you find the true when value you then get it home to be dissapointed with the performance..

Look around, get demos, go away get prices off the net, go back to the shops and see if they will price match....
