i want a new graphics card... since im lasting on galzie's radeon x1600se..which i THINK is below the min requirement...

i dont want anything TOO fancy.. i want to spend about £40-50 i think.. i want to know what everyone's recommendations are.... and where to get it from...overlockers.co.uk looks like a nice website..its just there is too much choice and i dont know what i am looking for

i want PCI-Express ... i have an AM2 model motherboard...

i have a 450 watt antec smart power 2 psu... bare that in mind

I want to be able to play Red Alert 3 comfortably (high graphics)..

Quote:
Minimum Specifications for RA3:

Operating System – Windows XP or Windows Vista
(32-Bit)
CPU – Multiple cores or Hyper-threading
Graphics Card – NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or higher, ATI Radeon X1800 or higher
RAM – 1 GB
Sound Card - DirectX 9.0c compatible

here's info on my cpu .. does my CPU qualify for this Multiple cores or Hyper-threading i have no idea...?? its 2.4GHZ AMD.. not DUO core ..

Radeon 4850? No? How about this?

hxxp://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-164-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=416&name=Sapphire%20ATI%20Radeon%20HD%202900%20GT%20256MB%20GDDR3%20TV-Out/Dual%20DVI%20(PCI-Express)%20-%20OEM

I'm no expert on AMD cards, mind

Upgrade the Gfx card then worry about the CPU later :thumbr:

imo u cant really get a decent card for 40 - 50 quid... u might as well wait and spend more money later on a card that will last longer and no need upgrading any time soon (like 9800 gx2 etc (except further down the chain)... but also a 8800gtx (what i got) is a good card and wouldnt need updating for a while either... but also outta ur price range which is y i say wait and fork out more later :) )

Mike, if Ra3 plays full graphics on an ATI 3850 or an 8600GT your in business, sadly the chance of that is probably around 5%, unless they've optimized it decently..

Your best bet is the 9600GT I'd say for about £70, personally I'd spend £85 and get a 8800GT, that'd definitely play it full graphics...

Worth looking at this Mike.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gam ... 965-2.html

This is full of win. PowerColor HD 3850 Pro 512MB £67

If you reallyyy can't afford that, then go for the 2900 GT, will be really interesting to see how well it runs.

what resolution is your monitor mike? how much RAM do you have? is it XP your running? your CPU wont do hyper-threading and by the look isn't multicore. If im honest mate even if you bought the best gfx card in the world i cant see your p.c running it on anything above medium.

Also have you checked with your motherboard spec that it has a PCI-E and if its 16 speed like the new cards are.

im on windows xp .. 32 bit

i have 2gb corsair ddr2 ram...

my monitor atm is an old dell CRT .... i normally run it at 1152 x 864 but the monitor...i think can handle about 1600 or so...

my mobo has PCI-E

it's an am2 abit kn9 sli

http://www.abit.com.tw/page/uk/download ... cket%20AM2

according to this it says

Quote:
Expansion Slots
2x PCI-E X16 slots

so i think its 16 speed.....

so ur saying that i'll definitely need a new cpu on top of the graphics card... ... and i think perhaps a new PSU :(

cry....ok forget the HIGH settings then... im happy with medium/high with low medium AA etc... nothing AMAZING .. just very pleasant and does the job

hehe i hear those things eat PSU's for breakfast, for a tip top system u need a good 1kw + PSU. worth it though playing crysis full spec on a big old monitor.

Mike if you are happy to run low/medium i would wait for your beta, see how it runs on current gpu. decide after that if you have the money to upgrade. i dont think ull find man 50 quid cards that will make much differance
