The story Got a lady at work who wants to by a laptop. Shes got an absolute maximum of £600 to spend. Less would be better. Whats best. Shes looked at an Advent (Anyone know anything about it) that the salesman at PC World recommended for about £595, which seems to have a lot on it. More stuff per pound than you'd get on a branded model like Acer or Sony. But salesman and PCworld... well...... Actually who in the community works there? But what is the best make, anyone know any good deals? Acer, Sony, Fujitsu, Advent, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Toshibe etc. Can anyone help? Know best magazine, website 4 reviews etc. Any help, I'd be grateful. Thanks Casp |

I have an advant 7102 gig of ram dvd re-writer semperon 3000+ cpu and 15.4 widescreen monitor built in g wireless 4 usb ports All in all very good spec for the price, note that i have the newer model which was actually 50 euro cheaper then the older lower spec and i got it at pcworld down side, build quality isnt as good as sony etc, but nothing actually wrong with it, no pcmia slot, and the builtin wireless sucks Do make sure you compare specs of the advant laptops as pcworld do 2 or 3 of the same spec but differ in price by 50 quid |

build quality? £300 dell = no build quality, speaks the voice of one who has one well, thats a little harsh maybey, but the screen is rubbish, the keys pop out, it gets worryingly hot and the harddrive makes the most pained noises ever... Speaking as an ex Dixons employee...at PC World - don't trust the staff, the advertising and the lables...15% of the time they might be right, but other than that, look on the web. Advent are ok, but nothing special Go for a Tosh if you can |
