creative labs did some decent 2.1's a while ago: I've got them here for the last 3 years. Built very well, good sound and headphone jack

JBL Creature II 2.1 speakers - £60 ish if you google. Awesome sound, nice design, solidly built. They come in black, silver and aluminium. Not sure whether they have a headphone jack :(

The 2 ODYSSEY+ concept satellites rely on an extrememly light membrane which reproduces frequencies without the least distortion, and a MAGNUM concept subwoofer (light robust membrane with 115mm diameter, for a harder bass) The JBL CREATURE II speaker system includes a touch volume control on the subwoofer and the right hand satellite. If you and your computer need quality sound and a striking design Creature II is for you!

I've got the creatures (though I'm not sure if they are the II or the I ones :? - I got them quite a while back now) they don't have a headphone jack but they do have a mute function on the speakers that is a joy to use (touch sensitive volume controls on one of the satellites!). Lovely little bit of kit, take up virtually no room and the sound is none too shabby.

A splitter will sort the problem if you don't have a USB headphone connection. I'd give the creatures a 4/5 (or a 5/5 just on looks :D )
