Right, so the time has come for a computer upgrade. Here's my spec...

Cpu: AMD XP 2600+
Ram: 1GB
Hard Drive: Maxtor 6Y080L0 (80 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/133) and 250Gb Freecom USB HDD
MB: Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 . . . Chipset : nVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400
Video: Sapphire Radeon 9550 (256 MB)
Connection: 512Kbs
OS: Windows XP home SP2

Basically looking for anything that would up my fps in css. My price bracket is £100-150.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks, Matt

Wow dude your comps the same as mine!

Except i've got 9600xt instead of 9550 lol.

Well mine works fine now that I formatted comp, so cheapest option is to just format your computer lol.

For around £100

Processor:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?AMD-64938V
-AMD Athlon 64 3800 Venice Core

Motherboard:

-Motherboard Skt 939 AMD Athlon 64

Something like that should do the trick?

P.S Backup all ya stuff on 250gb external like I did to :P, oh and I get around 30fps which is alright, was getting 9-15 before format with Vista on it :(...

aye, tis. i normally get about 30 fps, but when i get smoke, lots of shooting/people etc, that drops drastically. I basically want to stop that happeneing, just wondered if it was ram or gfx i needed.

I'll format it too 8) Thanks for the suggestions :D

I'll check the drivers too, but i'm sure they're current.

Thing is with his current setup he'll still get 30fps even with the 850xt because even my 9600xt is pretty much bottlenecked..its all in the CPU for our problems.

The 9600xt is very capable of getting a constant FPS of 50 but thats using a AMD 64 3000..the 9550 is very similar so will be around the same with better CPU I suspect.

Hmm I know nothing about replacing CPU units, does it require some level of skill? Rather than sliding it in? *cue crude jokes*
