what do you have at the moment ? it really depends what your used to and whether you are willing to spend the money required to do it properly.

For example if you watch one t.v program on a 14" t.v a week then its probally a complete waste of time and money.

If like myself your really into films and music then yes i would say it was.

Sky HD is great if you like either documentary's, films or the latest programs on Sky one. the BBC HD channel is very limited and only avaible for a couple of hours every evening. to see the differance you would have idearly, a 32-52" full HD ready screen, the real limiting factor here is of course cost as idearly you will get one of the better manufactuers aswell.

Blu-ray is very very new to the market and stand alone players range from about £800-£1000, a by far cheaper option is a ps3 which has a brilliant blu ray player build in and looks smooth enough to sit under your t.v (unlike the fisher price looking xbox 360).

for me the improvment in video quality is very clear, ive had sky HD for a year now and i work at Sky so am surrounded by it, it does however seem to vary as to who can see the differance (my mum thinks HD looks worse, but then she is old and blind so we ignore her  ). However it definatly becomes apparent that the more u watch HD the more u adjust and see standard definition (SD) in the same way DVD's look good and VHS looks pooh.

i find to match the increase in video quality the audio is equally as advanced, especially when coming from a SkyHD film, Blu-ray disk or Ps3 game that have full 5.1 Dolby digital and then the ultimate is the new Dolby digital HD which sounds incredible. for this improvement u do however have to buy a relativly expensive sound system, in my opinion anything under around £1000 wouldnt be showing the media's full ability.

you need to descide what u want out of your system, how much u are able to spend and of course looks are important when in a living room or other social space.

if you want to know tech details such as connection and brands, spec etc post away i do this for a living :)

I watch 2-4 hours TV a night, have my 7 yr old who stays over on the weekend and sometimes in the week, i wanted to get him a PS3, but my TV is not HD ( its a 4 yr old widescreen JVC sumfin or other ).

I loe my music and usually have TV on in the backround while using computer, not a huge film buff, i think i just want to keep up with the times.

I spose £1000-1200 would be reasonable including the PS3 for blu-ray.

worth it ?

samsung do a 37" 1080p tv for about £850 you might be able to get that and a PS3 for your budget. 1080p is definatly the way forward if you can affors it now, means you shouldnt have to upgrade for longer :D

1080p is nice if you have the space and funds for it, however the smallest 1080p screen i can find is 37". This is quite large for a t.v you might find its to big for your room? you can easily get a 32" screen, ps3 and probally Sky HD for £1200 (will be a monthly cost for the sky).

Best to have a look around the shops at a few manufacturers see if any screens catch ur eye. Personally i find the Samsungs and Sony's to be particularly good. Im sure these arnt the best prices but wil give you an idea.

Sony 32"

And to buy it my favourite retailer
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Qu ... 3789,50417

Use alot of these at work very nice screens

Samsung 32"

Rich has one of these and i have the older model of it, again a very nice screen.

Its important to have the two HDMI's, to connect both the SkyHD and ps3 up at once properly.

Quick techie note
There are two main standards of "HD"

720p = the most common format used by Sky HD, opperating at a resolution of normally 1366x768 progressive (all pixels are displayed at once), the minimum resolution a screen must to be able to display is 1280x720.

1080p (True HD) = Format used by Blu-Ray, Ps3 games and HD DVD. Opperates a resolution of 1920x1080.

Note that screen able to dispay 1080p are also able to display 720p, it just wont look as good.

If you have a look around see what deals/ screen u like, if you want to get my opinion on it post it up or PM me no problem :)

Hope i havnt confused you i have a habit of doing that :?

my only advice would be to make sure the tv has HDMI socket ,as i have seen a few new plasma/flat screen tv`s without this which means you wont get to enjoy the benefits of HD tv from either an hd sky box,or hd dvd player,,,
