Hi am looking for some advice on getting a new graphics card. I know more or less what I want/need for my pc but want to know if any of you have a similar graphics card and what you think of them ?

I want an AGP graphics card preferably with 512mb, and probably a Nvidia/Geforce rather than an ATI/ Radeon.

Are all the 512MB cards better than the 256MB cards ? or are there certain 256MB that are good ? :?:

I've been looking at the Geforce 7600 or 7900 GS cards and think this is the option I will go for :)

Finally does any1 know any good stores/websites where I may be able to order one at resonable price ?

Thanks any advice would be appreciated :D

- What's your budget?

- 512mb is more useful if you go over resolutions of '1280x blah' I think, and also there isn't that much that needs anymore than 256mb, so yea, not needed.

- Geforce 7 series is pretty good, but don't expect to run new releases on full graphics :), or some of the ones in the past year for that matter..

- Cheapest place I've found for computer components is ebuyer.com, and as such I've bought my whole new computer from there, looking on other sites, and not finding it cheaper anywhere else.

- What's your current spec?

Memory maketh not the graphics card. As he said above, helps iwth higher resolutions tbh.

Your problem is that AGP is out of date. They aren't making AGP cards for the next series, but as long as you are aware that if you upgrade your system in the future, you'll have to buy yet another new card - then that's fine :)

Well a 512MB 6800 Ultra isn't better than a 256MB 7900GTX thats for sure.

too much ram mucks things up on the slower cards - only very top of the range 6**0 series and their ati equivalent can handle 512mb...

Yeah I'm going to build new computer from scratch later on in this year, but for now am after upgrading this one budget around £90.

My computer is getting on a bit now but still realible thats why I want to keep it just for now until I save up to buy new parts. The motherboard will only take AGP/ PCI graphics cards, not the PCI Express cards :(

Would also like to have two computers, so I can play CSS and the missus can play the Sims2

Specs are: AMD Batron 2800, 2GB Ram PC 3200 400mhz (Soon to be 3GB :) ) , 256MB 6200 GeForce.

On CSS only get Fps of around 40 constantly sometimes lower :(

Al take a look on ebuyer, thanks everyone for all the advice :D

As posted, 3gb RAMwill probably increase your computer speed by about 0.1%, so don't do that one.

your best bet if you really dont want to change mobo's is to get a new graphics card,

Get a 7600gt, their pretty good..heres one for £65 inc delivery
