right...long story short, im going to be getting 120-180 quid a month till the end of the school year (EMA + other saved money)

im after getting a half decent pc...thinking either buy bits when i get the money then build it, or save some money and add it to christmas money and build on then. basically im looking at around 400-500 quid (suppose it could go to 600quid at a squeeze) for the tower unit and all components (not including monitor or peripherals)

im just after a pc that will run CS:S smoothly with a half decent fps....sound card aint important (can be bought at later date)

soo really, can somebody make a list of the main components for me in the range of £400-£500 only thing im bothered about is i want this case: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... =CA-065-AN - £70

Try http://www.pcoption.co.uk
They build PC's within a specific price range and you can get them without monitors keyboards etc
And they will overclock for free :D

http://pcoption.co.uk/pcbaseunits/index ... ip4con.htm

That's £469 and if you want to splash out on other upgrades just shoot down to the bottom
I suggest the 6750 CPU for an extra 45 quid
The Asus P5N-E SLi mobo for an extra tenner
And you can also get the case that you wanted from that site and they will build it all for you for free :D

tbh if you just want to play CSS smoothly you can do that for like less than £300..do you want to play stuff like Crysis at all?

well, it aint just for css mate...im just setting that as my benchmark i guess...main reason being is that if it plays css it will play bf1942/dc...trackmania etc....and obviously i can upgrade things like gfx and soundcard when needed....

well, ive just been looking at what skrunk posted up, ive got a mate here who
knows a bit about like, what company to use for what components etc, and
we basically took the pc skrunk put up but put an athlon duel core in it...and
it came out at £411...then bumped it up to an sli motherboard just incase i need
sli in the future and it was only around £430...soo ill see what you come up
with diablo and compare the 2, just keep in mind chances are ill be buying
the pc (or parts and bulding it) at christmas...soo they're may be newer and
better components on the market then (or the same but cheaper  )

Microdirect.co.uk

Total: £583.54

Also... don't be cheap and go with an Athlon. The Core 2 Duo are awesome priced and they give awesome performance. And whatever you do... DO NOT DROP THE CPU COOLER from that list... You'll only regret it later, lol.

well, apparently (these are my mates words) Athlon's are better for gaming
but Intel are much better for multiple applications...and if this is true ill go for
the athlon as this laptop i have now is only a month old and has a 3.33 core 2
duo...soo i can use the pc for gaming and this for other things. im not choosing
the Athlon for it being cheaper, just thought it was better for what i wanted :?

P.S. cheers to everyone giving advice here and suggestions, its much appreciated 8)
