A CPU always benefits from good paste. Lower temperatures means a longer life, no overheat on full load for hours and more overclock. The better the paste is the better the heat transfers to the cooler.

It´s up to everyone to use what they want so don´t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with normal paste if you don´t care.

Most manufacturer like ATI, ASUS, DFI and so on use crap paste. It´s common not to use good paste, because it would cost them a lot more to put AC5 on every GFX card or Motherboard then normal and cheap paste.

I always change the paste on my components (chipset of GFX card and Motherboard) and the temperatures always fall.

E6750, not overclocked - and asus probe always tells me 15 degrees
I installed another 2 applications just incase, both said the same (core temp was naturally different - 70 or 80 odd, but that's normal from what i understand - surface temp remained low).

Never actually seen it go above 25 at any time, given a bit extra on leeway.

As for "cost is reason they use crap stuff" - I honestly don't think adding 20p to the price of a £120 chip, or £250 graphics card by putting a drop of thermal paste is a justification for them using "crap paste"... especially since they stick out a 3 year warranty on the hardware too. If it's not going to keep it alive, they'd either lower than, or pay an extra 20p to safe guard it.

Sounds more like believing marketing by third party ocmpanies that are attempting to sell you something

If i see a wholly convincing review, then maybe I'll start believing it's all worth the moola, but until then - I'll stick with what works best

Naturally, if my temps were high - i would most likely upgrade my cooler and potentially my thermal paste... so I'm slightly biased in that respect. Never had a stock cpu or other component go above 40 degrees, and if it did - a quick clean of the heatsink lowered it back to the mid thirties...

Manufacturers produce in masses and at a much lower cost as actually the hardware costs in a shop.

So if I had said adding 1p (remember, they make that paste en masse - it's those little tubes that need making, the boxes it goes in etc, as well as markup price for manufacturers, suppliers, dealers and transportation that makes it cost £3 per tube... the actual ingredients are probs less than 1p per amount needed for a tube, let alone chip) to a £35 GFX card, you'd immediately know I was talking about the manufacturing costs of the 8800 GTX instead of an x1350 ATI card, with high end thermal paste instead of the stuff they already use?

Lets be honest here, it's called marketing. The cost of manufacture of that paste is minimal. The cost of the bloody tube it comes in is probably 10 times that of the paste... as that requires some form of manufacturing due to it's shape - the paste is made in a very large vat which is mixed, simple.

To try and then make out the 20p is more due to cards costing less to make than sold for smacks of complete hilarity due to being oblivious to the same application to thermal paste manufacture!!

asus probe is crap and if coretemp is showing the same temp then its wrong and i would update it to the latest version or try using tat.

if your stock cooler cools it to 22c then you may just have the best stock cooler on the planet.

look at the difference between asus monitor,tat and coretemp.

asus - 25c
coretemp - 36c
tat - 37c

never heard of that core temp app so i dl it and ran it

they are not exact, i know and these apps should be used merely as a guide

rather than rely on them to be precise

but in the past, i have grown on asus probe to be as 'near to'

and never really had any need to rely on them,

i have sufficient airflow within my case

2 x 120mm Sharkoon 2000rpm fans front & rear

2 x 80mm side sharkoon 2000rpm side fans

artic cooling freezer pro on cpu

all nicely wrapped in Silverstone Temjin TJ05 case
