Pretty much the old AMD vs Intel thingy. Have two systems in mind to build myself would appreciate everyone's thoughts and recommendations. Its pretty much for gaming (crysis!!) and the normal, web, msn, dvd's etc.. My budget is £1200 if anyone has some better system ideas post away!! ok system no.1 (prices from dabs) Vista home premium 32bit OEM MSi 8800GTX 768mb Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-6400 CL5 *2 (so 4gb) Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 S775 3.0ghz 4mb Cache 1333FSB Asustek S775 Intel 975X ATX Audio Lan Western Digital Raptor 74GB S150 16MB 10000RPM Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB S300 16MB OCZ Technology 700W Active PFC GameXStream SLI Ready 2* DVD writers Antec Nine Hundred/Ultimate Gamer Case no PSU Will need to add a sound card as dabs dont seem to like soundcards and nothing is in stock total (inc VAT) £1,134.76 and now the AMD based system, prices from scan.co.uk 6400+ 3.2ghz CPU ( black edition - oooh arrr) + heatsink (doesnt come with one) Asus M2R32-MVP mobo 512MB Sapphire HD2900XT same case 720W Atrix pPFC BLACK Silent PSU 12cm Fan 320 Gb Western Digital WD3200AAJS Caviar SE, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 9 ms 36 Gb Western Digital WD360ADFD Raptor, SATA150, 10000 rpm, 16MB Cache, 5.2 ms, NCQ Asus Xonar D2 7.1 Ultra Fidelity 7.1 PCI Sound Card 2GB (2x1GB) Corsair Twinx 800mhz *2 (4gb) and vista home premium 32bit TOTAL £1,177.98 So, a slightly more powerful cpu in system no.2 but a weaker GPU. However system 2 includes a soundcard. i was originally thinking using an intel quad core, but as far as i know no games will or will in the foreseeable future use all 4 cores? therefor a higher clock speed is more desirable? |

http://forum.gamecommunity.co.uk:8080/v ... 087b96b25e could make life easy for yourself - Chris is selling a beast of a system that is almost brand new and (as we know to our loss) it hasn't been used much at all....mint and a bargain? Intel processor everytime these days i'd say. |

Go for the 2.4Ghz quad core. Is a bargain at around £170, easy to overclock to 3.0GHz but you dont need to as one core @ 2.4 is more than powerful enough for games. There are games coming online that use more than one core - lost planet can use 4 cores. |

Thanks Bjorn, Colt and you others, not really wanting to sell it right now but needs must and all that, Lemme know if you're interested Bod. Hell of a system with little to no work at all. As flatline says though, Vista 32 bit only shows my 4 gb as 3.25 but works fine none the less. I am sure we could sort something as well if you didnt want the monitor Again Thanks Guys, will chat more soon I hope Currently on Ebay for £1100.00: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=016 |

That 36GB raptor is useless. Too small to install more than a couple of games, I had two in raid 0 but still too small. Not as fast as the 74GB or 150 GB also. Total waste of money. I sold mine on an bought a couple of 200s. |
