Right guys...

I'm probably asking questions that can't be answered but my computer is hitting the old age, just aint as beasting anymore :( .

When is the new bits coming out, as in GFX cards and Processors? I don't feel like spending dosh, on something that may be out dated straight away. (And i know everyone will come out with that things are always coming going out and its hard to keep in date.) But i don't really want to be buying C2D when they new chips are due out?

Long story short... 30/40 fps is crap. :(

If there is stuff that i have missed, could someone put a list together :)

Thanks

This is the defining part, not how good the hardware is, or how long it'll last.
Work out what you'd like to spend, what you can actually afford to spend etc - and put it forward :D

Then folks will probs start to "build" one via online shops :P There will be some variation, but basically it'll be the GFX card that gets altered the most ;)

Budget £450 or so

e4400 £75
2GB RAM - £55
8800GTS 320mb £180
Decent PSU to run all that crap - £50
Mobo to put all that crap onto - £60
Case - £25

Job done, that's my computer right there btw xD, if you have a lower budget, get the next cheaper component, vice versa.

I just put mine together yesterday for £970 including shipping and VAT. It's pretty much as good as you can get for that price I hope!

I ordered it all from overclockers and it's arriving on wednesday. I'll let you know how well it all fits together, but it looks pretty swish at the moment. Not gonna get outdated for a while :D

To top it all off, it's supposed to be a great chip and mobo for overclocking. Goes upto 3Ghz without any additional hardware needed, reports of it upto 4Ghz with a bit of extra cooling too.

my trick is to go to overclockers and choose two systems ;

1 ~ top of the range components
2 ~ next one down from top of the range fro components.

the second option gives you a prices possibly 20 - 40 % cheaper but very little difference is quality.....give it a try...

£1000 eh, *builds*.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz (aka BEAST) £161
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130483

Extra Value Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB - £297 (ebuyers brand, Overclockers is £2 more, upto you lol).
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130449

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency - £42
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL

OCZ ProXStream 1000W - £130
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124740

Inno3D 680i SLI Socket 775 Core2Duo and Quad Core ready ATX - £114
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124827

Seagate ST3500630AS 500GB Hard Drive SATAII 16MB Cache 7200RPM - £70
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/113428

Total: £825

I tried spending more but I couldn't justify it, if you need a case which you probably do, spend about £80 on that, then it will be close to your £1000 budget :).

I'd shop around more, micro-direct have always been cheaper by anywhere between £5-20 per component than Overclockers... same for most online shops.

I always buy micro-direct, never had an issue - cheaper as well generally. May just save 40-80 quid buying a system, which means you can splash out on games or better components in some areas :P

That PSU may be a bit much tbh, unless you're planning on doing some crossfire or sli configurations with gfx cards ;)

ditch the 1000 watt psu unless u wanna run sli or wanna go crazy overclocking stuff its a waste of money. 700-800 watt will be more than enough.

u wanna get one of these badboys u can use for OS boot and ur most precious games. will speed up boot and OS apps no end

http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Qu ... &InMerch=1

on that note what OS do you wanna run? for vista i would suggest 4gb RAM, even if it wont recognise all 4gb. mine will read 3.12gb and still idles at about 35% usage at 800mhz with 2 lots of dual channel running

its worth getting yourself a soundcard also thats pretty smart. this is probally the best 100 squid i spent when i bought my p.c. you could only justify though if you got some pretty nifty speaker system though

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductI ... tID=653468

also the better soundcards will take the audio precessing off the cpu, when your playing things like crysis in uncompressed dolby digital 5.1 every little helps.

as for waiting for new stuff to come out if you always think to yourself ill just wait for the next batch ull be waiting for ever!! the q9450 does look a good buy though, up to you if u wanna wait. hopefully by then the next batch of DX10 cards might be around.

Since OS isn't that big, could get a smaller cheaper version instead @ 74Mb and Seagate (£85, saving 45 quid).
If cost isn't an option, then screw that and go 15000 rpm for 170 quid :D

Alternatively he could just raid up a couple of disks for performance instead? What price it'd work out at i dunno, but plenty of options :D

well it wouldnt be any more expensive to use RAID as most boards come with the controllers, as opposed to when you used to need to buy a control interface for them. so yeh a 74gb 10k rpm drive for OS and, say two 250gb SATA2 in raid 0.

ive done a couple of systems now with this board, its a dodle to set up in RAID and generally a great board.

replace the c2d with a Q6600,the ram with crucial ballistix, the psu with a corsair 620hx and get a better boar for coverclocking :)
