how much better is a quad 9550 than a dual 6600...

would the upgrade be worth it......bearing in mind... its 167 for a 9550 quad...

i dont fdancy going the i7 way.... cos i dont have enough for a new mobo..memory and chip...

i dont really have enough for a 9550 ..but with some new games...( recommended quad)...how much of a selling ploy is that????? .....

so go on..what the best value cpu quad... and also... take overclocking into account if need be

the 9550 wont work in your mobo - 6600 fsb 1066 - 9550 fsb 13333 so its a mobo change

aye it will..... the mobo supports 1333..down to 800..... lots of my mobo and 9550 combo's out there....
to quote....
"This motherboard supports the latest Intel® Core™2 processors in LGA775 package. It also can support Intel® next generation 45nm Multi-Core CPU. With new Intel® Core™ microarchitecture technology and 1333 / 1066 / 800 MHz FSB, Intel® Core™2 processor is one of the most powerful and energy efficient CPU in the world."

anyway..from more reading...looks like the money might have been better spent on a new gfx card... thats if i had any now...think the wifes just earmarked it....

i would have said go for the Q6600... ive got that running at 3.2ghz with a 15 quid air cooler... it never goes above 50 degrees at load soo potentially be put up a lot more, i just cant be assed...

it plays all current games with a 4850 512mb card with plenty of fps to spare :)

i already have a q6600 @ 3g on a asus rampage formn.

just wondered if the 9550 was anything special..... and will games perform any better....
i was looking at the spec for flashpoint 2 and the recommended is quad core..... but the min is dual.

Stick with the Q6600, that's what I've got also running at 3ghz, the upgrade to the Q9550 will make virtually no difference.

Only upgrade worth making from the Q6600 would be to an i7, and you've already ruled that out.

What gfx card are you running?
