what's the performance difference between this and the more expensive ones? i doubt the only difference will be the storage space ...

either way though, cheaper is good

Some times you are the windscreen and sometimes you are the fly.

They knew. They held off on the price cut until you bought one, something to do with a study on 'Heart Disease and Stress in the Scottish Male'.

So if you have a 40GB SSD for your OS and say a 500Gig normal for everything else will that decrease loading time for windows?

Yup
I load all the OS crap onto the SSD along with games I'm currently playing (other than small demand games) - Everything else goes on the normal sata drive.
If I want to play a game or stop playing a game then I just move them between the drives.

Aye that was what I was thinking, although my win64 is only 20 gigs at the moment. A few updates and I bet that won't last long.

SO...WHAT ABOUT RAID 10 TO SSD? AS IN READ/WRITE

NO DIFFERENCE... OR LITTLE?

NOT THE INITIAL BOOT...... BUT FROM WHEN YOU CLICK ' OPERATING SYTEM TO LOAD'

THEN.... FROM WHEN WINDOWS LOADED....

HOW ABOUT STARTING A GAME..... SAY BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2...

WIL IT IMPROVE MAP LOADING???? :geek:

This was ALWAYS the case, remember?

For those who weren't around, 1Tb hard drives were phenomenally expensive when they first came out.

The same with SSD's.

For those who bought now - congrats, your purchase/s have contributed to the R&D for this to be lower price  (Thanks Extol! :P)

Transfer rate on an SSD is not in the SAME BALLPARK as a mechanical hard drive today. You would be faster with 10k RPM hard drives but not as close.

I've heard reports of Win 7 ultimate booting in 6 seconds from the time the pc is turned on  You would be lucky to get 15 secs or more with a mechanical hard drive.

And that's the other thing - hard drives are mechanical, SSD's aren't. So no more disk spindle motors failing, platters going defective, etc... it will just be another piece of electronic hardware.

As always with new technology, NEVER buy first generation and check the specs and performance from others before buying yourself
