Hey guys i'm planning on making an attempt at building my first desktop. It'll be a gradual project as i dont have the money to buy the whole thing in one go, Basically any hints on what bits and pieces i would need to be able to play the latest games on high graphics and any tips you can give a noob who wants to build his first desktop would be much appreciated The cheaper i can get a decent spec pc for the better

If it's tower only, then this should be right up your street. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showth ... t=18129102It's well known that the i5 performs better with games than the i7, so win. Read the thread though as they give tips on improvements. Also if you don't need the Win 7 software, just improve the Graphics card. If it's more you're after then this thread may help. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showth ... t=18129164

Thanks for the help.... so.. -Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail -Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card -G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM) -Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Retail (Full Version) -Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard -Corsair VX 550W ATX Power Supply (CMPSU-550VXUK) -Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS) still need a case to think about and is any extra cooling needed? Also any money saving tips on this setup would help as im pushing it a bit (eg. cheaper places to buy them or cheaper alternatives, i dont mind sacrificing some performance to save money )

Is the PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 4890 pretty much the same as the saphire one? saw one on ebay for fairly cheap...remains to be seen whether it will stay cheap....no warranty is that a bit risky?

£759 at Ebuyer prices. The i5 750 is the best price to performance processor currently on the market. Dont know if you've thought about the Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 P55 Socket 1156 with USB 3?. Cost a little more though. All in all a good investment though. Make sure you've included a Antistatic wrist strap in all that.
USB1.1 = 12 Mbps FW400 = 400 Mbps USB2 = 480 Mbps FW800 = 800 Mbps SCSI160 = 1280 Mbps SATA1 = 1500 Mbps SCSI320 = 2560 Mbps SATA2 = 3000 Mbps USB3 = 4800 Mbps HDMI1.2 = 4950 Mbps SATA3 = 6000 Mbps

Can remember not that long ago, I rang a local "pc specialist" asking if they had anti-static wrist bands in stock. They laughed at me, stating that nobody uses them anymore as modern equipment isn't affected.
