I think I have 1G 400DDR2 ram, so my first question is how do I find out that for sure? Do i have to rip my pc apart? Secondly I want to put more ram in to take it up to 2G, but I have heard that if i was to buy more ram i have to get the same make and spec stick as i already have, is this correct?

it should say on the RAM strip what it is. otherwise you could use Prime 95 to benchmark it and see what its running at.

if you want to run the strips as dual channel they need to be the same, you can buy 2 512's together which will do this.

Download the latest version of CPU-Z and it will tell you everything you need to know about your RAM, maybe even the week/year it was manufactured.

1gig of DDR Ram would really be clocked at 200 Mhz  ...it's the Bandwidth that is doubled and hence it really has 400 if i'm correct

correct.

looks like you may be confusing 1Gb PC3200 400MHz DDR with PC4000 DDR2

just one more noob question (or maybe a couple) How do i find out how many pins i have? As in I have been looking at RAM to upgrade with and there seems to be a difference on how many pins are need for certain Motherboards (if i have understood it correctly). I know I am running a Dual channel (whatever the hell that is lol) so i asume i have to get dual channel RAM? Also can i get the fastest i can buy or is there a restriction on what i can get because of my Motherboard?
Apparently this is my MB :-

Manufacture: Fujitsu Siemens
Model: PG5D1-FM

And my RAM at the mo is:-
Manufracture: Micron Technology
Model: MT8VDDT6464AG-40B ( is this a good bit of ram?)
Or what would be easier for me is if someone would be so kind as to tell me A good RAM to buy? I after 2G of ram as fast as i can get for about £150 if possible. Oh one last one lol, I take it DDR2 is better than DDR. So can I run DDR2?

Woot I have reached 100 post :D
