Hey Guys,

been looking at the AMD Dual Core CPU/Asus Motherboard bundles on Ebay but there's that many I don't know where to start.

Ideally looking for an Asus Motherboard with Dual PCI-E Slots that I can run 2 X ATI X1600 Radeons (Currently Have one). There are motherboards that have these slots etc but I really am not up on the lastest stuff.

Any advice or even links to suiteable kit would be great..

Regards

Chris

Hi chris

The best motherboard for you i'd say would be the Asus A8N sli skt 939

Linkage

Its a great motherboard rly..heard lots gd things about it

Seen them on go on Ebay for about £50 which is bargain.

As for Dual core AMD's

Go for something like an AMD Athlon 64 4000+/4200+ x2

I'm unsure about your Budjet, maybe if you would share it with us we could help you further,

Regards

TBH Alienware are quite overpriced for there comps, you could buy all the gear for around half price and fit it in to a case bought of E-bay.
Laptops are really the only Alienware worth buying.

if you want a gaming laptop, go to htotp://www.rockdirect.com

as for shopping, I find scan generally to be cheaper with more selection

If you want to have ATI crossfire then you will need a motherboard that supports it. That ASUS is for SLI - nvidia cards.

You need to be looking for ATI chipped motherboards that support crossfire.

Something like this

http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=317633

They are a bitmore expensive but will support your dual 1600 graphical needs.

My advice will be to wait until AMD release their new AM2 processors and hopefully they will reduce the cost of the S939 parts. You then will have to weigh up wether you want to pay more for the AM2 part but get a better processor upgrade path or save your cash and get the S939 part that will give you the same performance. If you go AM2 you will also need new RAM.

**** Stay away from the RDX200 boards as they were the first to support Crossfire and are a bit unstable ****

Thanks Guys, Only problem now is that I bought this last night:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

Which now seems it wont be capatable at all with my graphics card

Also got this while I was at it:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

Now what do I do about the motherboard if its now use :( :o

Gonna hold off on the CPU for now so will see happens with the new stuff. Just gutted about the motherboard.

Your graphics card will work you just wont be able to use it for two cards running in crossfire mode.

It is a very good Board if you want to run Nvida SLI though. Unlucky about that. I saw this post last night on one of my study breaks but didnt reply until this morning. Feel free to blame me for not providing timely information.

*** Ah just noticed you bought from CPUcity. They are reasonably understable about mistakes and have a good return policy. Email them and ask if you can switch to the Crossfire board.
