The problem is, we'll need to upgrade eventually to play all those DX10 games... including the revamped EVE which will be DX10 (Though thankfully you have a choice, and can still play the EVE we got now, instead of going to DX10).

Well, recalling the releases of 2000 & XP, it was ages before any decent games came out for them, so I wouldn't worry just yet. Who's going to want to play Halo2 ffs when 3 will be out on the 360...?

TBH I'll be happy to stick with XP for ages - especially as SP3 will include the new desktop, etc., although do I want to cane my system with that :? Vista will be an even worse resource whore, rammed to the gills with DRM shite and irritating security popups that plague every click you make (you even get a popup when adjusting the clock ffs).

But I digress - Vista may not even be out in 2007 if Symantec win their case

Right, where's the fanboy got to then...? :lol:

I only went XP in 04

Theres been a definate decline in OS since RISC OS 3 (ftw) where you really had to think to use it, but it just wouldn't crash unless you did something really stupid

And i'd only get vista once FF, OOo, GAIM and VLC are compatible =]

heheh - their Product Activation program has aleady cost them $550 million in damages :lol:

Now Office 2003 SP2 is a mandatory installation by OEM's as it contains a load of patches to remove proprietary code in the apps that MS lost another case over a couple of months ago :twisted:

$550 millon... hmmm... well... most people won't even buy the OS. They'd just stick with XP or download it (personally I'd stick with XP and I know I'm not supposed to mension downloading, but it's true)... >.>

You can gaurentee that hackers will find a way to crack Vista and people will have it with all their nice PCs... while mine still needs RAM XD

This subject have been to alot of discussion.
Yet i dont see any problem.

The Windows folder of Vista takes up 10gb.
It contains over 40k of files.
This are alot of fonts, dll's(Most of all the space taken up is dll files) and media files.

I want to remind you that XP takes up 3-5gb of space.
Since this is the biggest release ever of Windows, and theres ALOT of nifty new features, i dont see any problem.

And even Windows XP, wouldnt even run very good on a 15gb harddrive.

This 15 gb that is minimum, takes into account that you most likely will use things like Office 12, which also takes up space.

Yet, you cant do like you did, saying "omfg it takes up 15 gb", since you cant buy that small harddrives today. And if you want to run Vista, you would most likely not even want to run at any harddrive below 40-60 gb.

@8ilbo, im quite sure that Vista will support FF, OOo, GAIM and even VLC, out of the box, since there is no breaking changes in the Windows API.

@Beef:
1. There is no plans so far im informed that SP3 will include the new desktop, this would not only make Windows XP more unstable, it would also take up alot of CPU, RAM and GFX.
2. Vista doesn't, at this stage, take up alot resources then XP.
3. I still dont get why people talk about DRM. This is not confirmed that DRM is a part of the system. Im quite sure it wont be either.
4. You are free to disable all services etc that has to do with security.
If you are talking about that in the recent beta's you need to confirm a security dialog that you will run this app, its not gonna be like that in rtm.

@GreyWolf
You sure do. Its your choice. You can run Vista without a Dx10 card. All i know says that there isn't a THAT big different between the eye candy when running either Dx10 or 9. I havent seen for myself yet.

@Coolman
Since Vista is a big system, you might get a small drop in FPS. Really depends on the quallity of the drivers that is comming out, since the new driver model should give a fine boost in FPS overall.
But since the desktop is 3D, you might have a small performence hit.

@3of5
DC and CSS should run just fine.

@Dr.Strangelove
You can freely disable the media center(Im quite sure it wont even be running by default, so shouldnt matter)

As far as i can see in alot of the posts so far, people are informed very badly. You SHOULD NOT LISTEN TO THE GENERAL NEWS SITES THAT WRITES ABOUT VISTA. THEY ARE MOST LIKELY TAKING THINGS OUT OF CONTEXT, OR ARE MISINFORMED THEMSELF.

Feel free to either post here, or drop me a PM if you have any questions about vista. I would love to answer you, so we can get all this incorrect information out of the forum.
