Stereo auxiliary input cable, is that where you plug a mic on speakers?

I would assume and AUX input would be for a line level device like a CD player, a mic would need a pre-amped input and (omg Bonnie is sot hot in that bikini) would be marked for a mic. you could use the aux input for external sources like; personal mp3 players, walkmans, cd players etc. Anything capable of using quiet unpower speakers (headphones) or powered speakers. mics, guitars and record players are unpowered and won't work in the aux. They need pre-amps.

What the man said is good the AUX in is just like calling it a 'miscellaneous' in....and it only accepts line level (ie pre-amplified signals).

What are you trying to acheive mate - Simply to use your mic with your PC??? Some Mic's are self powered (battery) and if yours is one of these you can use the AUX in.

Some pointers:
the only place it will go if it is not self powered is a dedicated mic in on your soundcard. check whether it's got one (i'd expect it to) and plug in your mic. done.
If your soundcard doesn't have a mic in, you can either a) buy a cheap usb stereo in device like this one http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/6104040/wo/6g6rxK3oV9CJ3PW6Blt1peKJd4h/5.PSLID?mco=CC8340C1&nplm=TC361
and plug yur mic in.
or, if your mic is nothing special, buy a new one that connects by USB.

thanks, it must be self powered as i rin it through my current £5 speakers. i just want a decent set now

is line in for the mic mainly then and aux mainly for other bits and bobs.

Not really mic in or for the mic line in is another input the same as aux. some cards have 1 or other or both of these. they nearly all have a dedicated microphone input use this. Some cases have a set of jacks to connect to the cards headers (pins) in addition to the jacks on the back of the card. This also applies to the built in sound cards. check the manual of the card / mobo to see what it says about header pins.

im not on about soundcards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in my SPEAKERS not soundcard, my current £5 speakers have a headphones jack and a mic jack since my headphones cable aint very long.

i just need to know what the jack is called for the mic on speakers so i can see i it ahs one to buy!!!!

Sorry Scorch if we're missing the point - The thing is, speakers in themselves do nothing more than output amplified sound. I'm confused what you're trying to do. If you're saying the speakers themselves have a mic in - then the input must be amplified wither by the mic itself, or by a small preamp inside the speaker. If the latter, this is an unusal arrangement but perfectly fine and you'll simpl y plug your mic in.

If you want to know the name of the input for a mic - i'm guessing you need to be asking for a mini jack - but I don't think that's your question either.

Post a pic of the kit your talking about if you want......sorry again, I think I must be having a common sense lapse

The pink ones for my mic and the other jsut for headphones, i need to know what teh pink ones called so ic an get some new speakers with the same bit, the cables nto very long you see.

quick answer: the pink lead is a mic-out with a mini jack attached (could be mono or stereo - check the plug, if there are two black bands it's stereo), it plugs in to a mic in mini jack plug. nothing more complicated than that.

More thorough answer which i hope helps.....

My assumptions:

1) Your logitech headset is not usb - it has a stereo in lead (plugged into the headphone socket on your speakers) and a mic out lead, also plugged into your speakers, in the mic in socket. It is therefore an analogue headset.

FYI :

A: A USB microphone is digital, so it does not suffer from line noise, resulting in higher quality input. USB microphones also act as their own sound cards. An analogue mic requires an external soundcard (or pre amp) to function. When you plug in a USB microphone, the operating system automatically detects and enables it as your primary recording device. You can access the microphone settings in the Control Panel of your operating system. When you unplug your USB microphone, your operating system will automatically enable your primary sound card/recording/onboard device again.


2) Your speakers then plug into your computer but not with a USB connection. I hope I am right in thinking that there are two leads leaving your speakers. One is plugged into the mic input on your pc, the other is plugged into the headphone out of your pc. The point here is that if the speakers are not connected to the PC by USB, the only way your mic can be working is if the speakers are really just acting as a bridge between the PC and the mic - ie you could, if you wanted, plug the pink mic cord directly into the mic in on the back of your pc and it would work the same as if it were plugged in the speakers. There MUST be a mic input on the back of your PC ???? you can't send audio the wrong way down the headphone out ..... and it has to be entering your PC at some point...????


3) You wish to get new speakers (old ones difficult to place since they have too short a cable), but do not want to be unable to use your headset.

If what I have said at 2) is correct, you needn't worry - you'll be able to plug your headset mic into the pc itself. That leaves you free to get whatever speakers you like- as long as the speakers aren't acting as a) an amplifier for the mic or b) have a usb connection to the PC, they are not relevant to your mic use.

A final picture could confirm this - of the input ports for your PC.

blimey, this is clearly a simple problem to sort, but without being able to see i'm finding it a bit abstract......and I'm a sound engineer who builds his own analogue synthesisers and runs a studio lol.

feel like sending you a decent soundcard, mic and speakers to sort it all out - if only i had money to burn lol.
