I have been looking round at potential monitor upgrades. been having a look at this one Samsung 20" LCD Syncmaster 205BW which seems to have a decent response time and resolution. but that's as far as my knolwedge extends, can someone who knows a little more than me point out anything good/bad about this monitor ?
cheers.

i beleive it's good for a screen of that size.
I would get that one 3of5 (since I recommended it to you ) but I already have a 19" CRT and want a bigger screen size otherwise there isn't really much point upgrading.
PS. I am tempted to order this today, so you have 3 hours and counting

Damn thats nice but too damn pricey! XD I'd go with the 19" TFT Samsung.
1. It's fair priced
2. Good for gaming due to its low response rate (2ms)
3. High resolution within reason which is nice.
4. 19" thats £200 and I got my Samsung SyncMaster 152N 15" TFT for like £225 a few year go, so that would be my upgrade
5. I find Samsung to be very reliable and my monitor is still in perfect condition after nearly 4 years. (No dead pixel etc) Just a little dusty XD

I have that 19" samsung, nice screen, switched from a 19" CRT and have no complaints, apart from mine cost more than the komplett one
I think the display is slightly bigger tha a 19" CRT, the actual screen measures 19", whereas I don't think CRT does,
saying that it seems smaller because it doesn't have a fat ass like a CRT, so it's not so close to my eyes

The trouble with fast screens <8ms is that they use overdrive technology. This means they use the fast "off to on" speed and then drop to the desired pixel brightness (some thing like that). This makes them faster than just ramping straight to the desired pixel brightness. The down side of this is that the colour accuracy is compromised for the speed. Apparently they tend to sparkle when watching movies etc though I havn't seen an overdriven screen myself. Personally I'd go for an 8 to 12 ms (non overdriven) screen as they are plenty fast enough anyway. Check out Tomshardware guide for some of the science.

thats what you are looking for, the rest is mostly BS fabricated by the manufacturer - some are grey to grey, or black to white, and they all use different timings, and they're all plenty fast, provided they're under 12ms.
You want high contrast, high brightness, and high viewing angle
if i may recomend

i have the 17" model, and it r teh shex

aiiiiiiiiiie - I'm so glad I don't deal with the tech side of monitors anymore
Getting to spend close on £20,000 on a test-rig PC was good fun though
