im on BT Broadband max thing. upto8mbps (i know ill never get 8, im supposed to get 5.5ish)

im only getting 3.2mb and my ping is tripple what it used to be on 2mb?

everytime i run the test it says i should get 5.5. I get around 7.6 when i turn the hub on, then it keeps cutting off until its back down at slow speeds!.

£30 a month for 3mb thats slower then my old 2mb. My download speeds are averaging 170kb also which is also slower than on 2mb.

Should i jsut cancel it and switch to 10mb NTL?

BT are a bunch of.....

Anyway *Deep Breath*

There could be a fault on your line. Call up BT Tech Help (Based in Delhi) and ask then to do a line test. If it goes on longer than a week, give up all hope and go on a holiday. NTL 10mb sounds good TBH, but I believe you may have to pay penalties to get out of the BT contract mate.

How long *exactly* in days have you had the service adsl max upgrade on the line?

Good point, after upgrading you will get 10 days or so of instability as the BT line finds out its highest consistent speed.

Had it now for 8 days, so might still be unstable i guess. Its capped out at 3.2 with crappy speeds for about 4 days now.

The exchange is a 15min walk away, maybe 20.

*EDIT*

According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

1.64km away from the exchange, 1.02 miles.

still only 3.1mb, which isnt very good considering i can get 10mb NTL for £5 more.

My ping is still trippled and i download at about 120k :(

its appauling tbh, this is worse than my fixed 2mb line.

Rang up BT and its a pain to cancel they cant do it at the moment due to an engineer not being able to for sum bs reason.

Were now playing £30 for shit bb that i cant even play cs nicely on!

I hear BT now has a service that you get Internet on DVD, with a monthly patch,
just so that you can get the most out of your subscription.

Quote:
Have you turned you hub on and off, that sould reset it and up your speed.

STFU BT, as soon as i can leave it i will but they are being annoying and not letting us at the mo, more calls to india it is!

you probably got moved onto a different stream, which basically has everyone with +2mbps speeds, and generally being whored 24/7.

There are two type of adsl max (unbeknownst to the general public).

Fast and Interleaved.

If your line quality is good and your distance is short then you will get fast.

If your line quality is poor or your distance is great then you will get interleaved.

Interleaved is basically fast with additional error checkking built in (which is why your ping to the first hop is always greater which will effect your overall ping).

That distance is probably as the crow flies so as a rule of thumg multiply it by 1.4 to get a line length, even then its relatively short so i would guess that either a) the quality of your twisted pair copper is crap or b) theres a fault on your line somewheres.

I live about 370m from exchange with a good line, mine tops about ~6.5-7 meg but I get good pings. However I was a victim of the BRAS bug and instead of 10 days it took them more like a month to release the speed limit on the line from 2 meg.

maxdsl will be good but it's still new technology.
