 Post subject: Small cheap PDA
Post Posted: Sat Aug 05, 2006 1:34 am
Hi folks, I am after a PDA and have the following needs.

It has to be rather small so that when its in one of those PDA holder/wallet things it doesn't come to a size much larger then a standard wallet.
The idea is that i will replace my wallet with something that functions as a wallet but also houses the PDA.

It must have a decent battery life. I will go without charging this thing for quite some time, it needs to last!

It must have the facility to allow me to write my own software for it, ie can upload own software over the datacable or something.

An alarm/buzzer is a must!

Features I don't need: Camera, wifi, bluetooth, IR, latest OS,.

Features i'd like to have but aren't super important: Memory card slot, vibrate option for when a buzzer is inappropriate. Solitaire :D

Many thanks

(I wanna spend under £100, the lesser the better!)

I used to have a Psion Series 3. The are old and mono but have some great features. These have their own programming language (OPL), I used to write my own software including databases and scientific programs. I even passed several Uni assignments with series 3 programs and used its word processor for assignments too. There are spread sheets the usual callender stuff and lots of other stuff. The best bit... A pair of AAs lasts MONTHS!!!!OMG!!!.

I am sure you could pick one of these up for <<£100. Be sure to get a large memory version (1 MB) and possible a Ram Drive (Up to 4 MB I think). They have sound but no vibrate. and many games are available.

Have a look here for come details.

I had a Series3 and a 3a. at one point. They use an RS232 cable to communicate with PCs.
