Hey Guys,
need some suggestions on AV software that is'nt going to hammer resources and drag my system down. Currently running Norton Internet Security 2006 and have been told that this is not the best.
Looking for AV and Firewall. Something thats not going to mess with Online/Lan gaming.
Any suggestions Would be great. Thanks in advance.
Regards
Chris

if its free etc then yea AVG will do the job for viruses.
although I have to be honest I lost confidence in that program when I had a virus on my HDD for months, and AVG said it had deleted it and it would keep coming back.
Currently I use kaspersky ( http://www.kaspersky.com/)
I think there AV is the best Ive used so far and I havent noticed any performance drop.
as for firewall, if you dont have any other computers on ur network (apart from urs and tans) then windows firewall and a router will do it.
Its a big mistake not to have a firewall of any kind even if you have a router, as if somone, like ur mates, or kids comes over and plugs in they could infect your pc easily. Not a risk you want to take.

^^ Understatement of the year...
ZoneAlarm is an OK firewall - not to obstrusive (comodo asked me EVERY DAMNED TIME the program tried to access the internet in a slightly different way whether i wanted to allow it or not)

Was it in windowz backup? It aint allowed to fiddle in there - you have to remove it manually. But that might be the same for them all......

Tis a well known issue for any anti-virus and anti-spyware. Read about it more here.

for firewall definatly get a router with one built in. Windows one is rubbish and but i usualy leave it on because the router filters most the bad stuff out. but zonealarm is ok but definatly go pro as basic is exactly what it says on the tin.
as for anti virus the best on the market is Nod32. its not expensive and is the only AV to get 100% detection on tests over the past few years. Its very clever and has a virus prediction as well so it even gets unknown viruses, or some of your bad c programming project with memory leaks
hope this helps

NOD32 is the best antivirus for home use (ask Beefy), or something like Symantec Corporate if you have a large network.

thats true for any AV software....some viruses have ways of hiding and re-appearing. some are even designed to stay dormant on your PC until a AV program tries to remove it...and thats when it buggers stuff up(crafty feckers)
you have to find them and remove them manually, or find a virus specific cleaner through google.
I use AVG. and windows firewall.
Norton is the worst piece of software ever! and its a bugger to remove
i'm not too fond of zonealarm either....
