x-fi is certainly the best.

as for which one to get, the x-ram isnt all its made out to be, every few games support it atm, and im not sure if they will in the future.

and other than that, there is very little odds between each one, breakout box etc.

imo the cheapest version is the best bang for buck (im listening to mine now)

What he said, Ive got that card and its the best investment i've made. The sound quality is incredible and im sure it will sound fantastic with your headphones.

BF2 supports X-ram if u play that. Putting the sound to ultra high in BF2/BF2142 is insane, the bullets wizzing past you and everything else is brilliant.

I wouldnt get the X-FI music unless you produce music, fatal1ty is fine for games.

This card will also have drivers for vista :)

don't know alot about gaming cards.

however, whichever soundcard you go for, make sure you check the manufacturer specs for the AD/DA convertors - after all, everything else is just gloss - it's getting the best quality digital/.analogue converters you can for the money.

If it was stereo you were after I'd know where to point you - companies like Apogee make fantastic convertors - but aren't really ideal for gaming (unless stereo is all ou desire - it is in my case)

Have a look at the spec on this http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/minidac.php - NOT STRICTLY SPEAKING A SOUNDCARD it's simply a very fine d/a convertor - no fancy feature but if you can find a gaming card that does a similar quality conversion job, let me know what it's called :D

the xfi extreme music is the cheapest xfi card, you can also run this on super high in bf2, basically it is a good all rounder and it isnt specifcally for making music, its just a name, but it does make a difference to the sound in games dvd's and mp3's when listened to with a pair of beyerdynamic DT331's

it is actually in the Custom PC elite list because they werent convinced that the xram on the other cards justified the extra dosh

take a peek @ this

On a g33k note, the X-Fi has an interesting ring architecture :)
