i downgraded from 8mb to 2mb a while back in the hope that i should get better ping (been relaibly informed that it should help).
Anyways good old tiscali dont seem to have actaully done this, as usual they appear to be sat on their arses smokes fags. I'd like to actually test the speed of my internet without relying on what my comp says...i.e. an indepenant test.
can anyone help?

Downstream 897.2 Kbps ( = 0.9 Mbps )
Upstream 170.5 Kbps ( = 0.2 Mbps )

Thats for a connection thats supposed to be upto 8Mb BT said it would probably be about 4-6Mb.
Downstream 5,370.4 Kbps ( = 5.2 Mbps )
Upstream 375.9 Kbps ( = 0.4 Mbps )
I was told you need to take a sample at different times of the day though, becuase of usage.

That's crap.
I've got 2Mbs - well, 1.8 on my 2Mb line.
It never varies, it's always the same. Which company are you with, as your speed shouldn't really change with "usage" if on a phone line. Are you with cable?

moo how long has it been activated? There is a bug where it can take a few weeks for speed to increase.

im on tiscali and ive been on it for a few months now. The ping for online gaming can be ok sometimes but also it can be shite with pings of +200.
On the tiscali boards they have a fair few people whinging about this.

Upstream 648.1 Kbps ( = 0.6 Mbps )
I have cracked 7Mbps on this test before and I suppose 80+% of the rated speed is pretty good
