i am looking at a new graphics card with my money that i am getting for christmas (will b bought b4 xmas)

my brothers friend suggested the nVidia 7800GS 512MB

but my brother suggested that my computer will be holding it back... i am concerned about this to but i am planing sometime after christmas to upgrade my ram

my specs at the moment are

Quote:
1 gig of ram amd athalon 64 processor 3200+ 2.20 ghz

but would it be worth buying this card for my computer and then upgrading the ram later or would it be worth getting a lesser model for my computer and not worry about it being held back?

lol in discussions with my resident techie, i got my wires a little crossed ;) he says if you can afford the bigger card, get it, but you'd notice the performance boost with the ram more

It's probably best to save your money for a PCI Express motherboard, theres a few I can recommend for not that much...And your graphics card will be cheaper on the new board too...

AGP is a dying breed... :)

i know it is... but i have spent alot of money on this computer... and it all still works... the only thing thats dieing is the graphics card... at which i will b buying new PSU and possibly new ram later so at the moment.. .the computer can take the games so i am putting off buying new motherboard till alot later date as this one is still hanging around and is fighting :P so

is it a S939 or S754 Mother board because S754 Motherboards with pci slots are quite thin on the ground

AGP is a very dead breed. The only reason they still sell higher range cards using AGP is for the minority like me and mark that don't have PCIe x16 support. But on the other hand, I'm just gona get a Gigabyte Intel P965 Motherboard and buy all new stuff for that including the 2GB RAM CORSAIR PC5400 <3

Oh, and the Conroe will be included too :P
