Hey up just one question. I've been looking at bikes and am unsure wether i should go for road, touring bikes or hybrid bikes :?. I'm gonna be using it afterwards for city cycling when i go to university and probably long distance at the weekends. Christ there's soooooo many.

I had a cannondale badboy hybrid until it was nicked recently. great because its tuff constuction meant i could stick a pair of mtb wheels on at the weekend and take it on trails.....but in the week those razor sharp road tyres make cycling around the city much easier.....and it went up and down kerbs without me thinking i'd knackered my frame every time.

It's a good compromise for dual use - but cycling the length ofthe uk is pretty serious distance - i'd want a road bike to do that on tbh!!!

Hey mate thanks for the advice, my sister's been planning the route she says mostly on roads or purpose built cycle paths, she's figured most of scotland and northern england out just northern wales and the south coast.

Trainings one thing I wasn't sure about, what would you recomend? I already to a bit of running during the week. 3 miles every other day and the gym monday wednesday and friday been doing that since last october. was thinking about cycling distance at weekends like 15-30miles, would that be adiquate training?

I live 21 miles away from John O Groats come see me :)

and as for looking for bikes.. somewhere like halfords would be your best bet or check local news paper from 2nd hand ones

I'm sure we could get get some skirts and pom poms to cheer you across the finish line. :P

Are you cycling up to John O Groats or cycling down from it?

If up then be prepared for the Berriedale Braes. :P

Oh and avoid Wick, they'll steal the wheels of you're bike as you ride it.

Welll it's been a while and i've talked to maaany people but i've finally decided on a bike. It's not exactly the same as the one in the link. Slightly lighter frame, slicker tires but in all other respects its pritty much the same.

So, what do you guys think?
