Basically I finally got round to buying the shiney stuff I wanted, so maybe I'll be able to play Oblivion at long last.
Anyway, I've never installed a motherboard, graphics card, and processor + heatsink all in one before.
Any tips or advice I should know about with the building of a new 'beast'?

take your shoes and socks off, wear an antistatic wristband. Installing new processors is easy, you don't have to worry about thermal compound. When you take stuff out, espec memory, find some antistatic foam to put it on while you install everyhting new.
Other than that, just do what it says on the tin and plug & play.

Would that anti static wristband be able to be in the form of metal?
I always thought you had to ground yourself by keeping your shoes on?
Hopefully it will all fit, the Mobo I got looks pretty much the same as my current one, except for the AGP to PCIE-E part.
To test the startup and everything, after upgrading, would I be able to keep the windows on my harddrive and boot up the pc, then if everythings running fine, reformat the hardrive with a fresh windows install?

hard drive should be fine aye...
Shoes will only keep you grounded if they are anti-static shoes, and if you are working anywhere near carpet they'll pick up a load anyway - and socks are worse. Best by far is barefooted, with as anti-static clothing as you can manage, and the wristband. They're only a few quid, about £5 from maplins i think, but well worth it.

Lol, I'm really surprised I haven't blown up my previous installations in a super electrified charge.

You can get away without an anti static wristband as long as you keep incontact with the metal case.
Apart from that be gentle, take your time and it should all be groovy.

People build their pcs with out protection and the PC works so they spout arrh static is harmless then 2 years later they get random crashes and wonder why.
Most shoes are insulators meaning static builds up, then discharges through what you touch.
Static is a menace, but easily dealt with.

Stick your foot on the radiator
An anti-static wrist band is fine, just remember to connect it to something, otherwise it's just a big girly hippy bangle. From what i understood, memory is especially susceptible to static, although I did read that A+ cert thing years ago, and I'm pretty sure it was a dodgy copy and not legit anyways 
The most important is take your time - no rush, and read the manuals (the mobo manual will show where things go, as well as how to fit them.
If in doubt, ask someone - but preferably someone who knows something, and not old bill who's 96 across the street.

Going to pick up the parts in a few hours, just putting all my data I want to save onto my mums pc for when I reformat.
So what are you saying..?
Stand barefoot, while touching the pc case to install all the components?
Thats all I've done before, and no static.
Any chants and ancient rituals I should know about? Timing it to an eclipse or something?
Of course before I've pushed ram ect into place while holding the anti static sheet, like when you pull a tray out of the oven with a folded up tea towel... if that makes sense. _________________
