As everyone knows, a pirate is no pirate at all without his booty...heeelp!

My computer downstairs wont boot up properly. Firstly there was a delay of about 1 or 2 seconds between the green 'power' light coming on and then the fans starting. That time seemed to gradually increase exponentially. Now it's taking hours.

We havnt changed anything with regards to hardware/bios settings, only added a few new programs.

Even an explanation/timeline of what happens when you press the power button would help towards a fix :) Thanks in advance, Matt

Murcury ATX switching power supply. Model:KOB 4300XA

To test that theory, I have a 2nd computer which I can just try and power with this PSU. That can wait til 2mo though, it's powered up now so I have CSS to play :P

a computer first does a POST test, (power on self test) to check if the voltage suplied by the psu is within normal limits and won't blow up everything :P

so if the voltage isn't good, the computer won't get past the POST ;)

Try this.

Unplug the power cord at the wall. Leave it 30 secs. Plug it in, leave 1-2 secs then switch it on.

Always worked for me XD

EDIT: Enermax FTW!

If a 10-volt capacator is replaced by a 20-volt one, would it make much of a difference?

Also, what does the voltage rating on a cap' signify? The max pd across it, or something else? If it's the max pd, but the capacitance is the same, surely it will be ok to change a 10V with a 20V?
