i wanted to overclock my cpu aswell
messed up slightly though, i used the gigabyte overclocking program (easy tune) to add 400mhz to test it but that must've been to high an increase in one go? either way, blue screen of death and my windows was fecked, couldn't log in to my account anymore. it loaded up a temporary account but everything would be deleted from it once shut down, didn't read that and cut all the temporary backups to that account, result: everything was gone
kind of afraid to overclock it now

lol, big jump you took there
When overclocking your supposed to do it gradually and monitor it under pressure. ^ ^;;

Hehe, well currently, I've managed to get mine up by 36MHz on the Bus Speed with FSB:DRAM at 1:1
Seems ok on Core 1 and Core 2 temps. Highest I've seen so far is 55C @2400MHz. I'm not sure how far I should go before worrying though. Presumebly with the Core Temps I don't wanna go any higher than about 60-65C.
EDIT: I'm using Speedfan 4.32 (Lastest one) to read back my temps.

my cores were idle at 45 and 60 on load (measured with tat) (not overclocked yet btw)
looks a bit high ... :/

if your temps are high and youve only upped your fsb by a little bit check its no auto adjusting your volts.mine is @ 3000mhz and 1.3volts and my idle temps are 48.
also always have your fans @ 100%

Fans at 100%. Well looks like I'll have to connect the fan straight to the PSU power, or disbale some stuff in BIOS, I think PSU option is easier. XD
I have the FanMate2 anyways, I'll have to mount it to the outside of the case. (does'nt actually do anything with my motherboard, because my mobo automatically controls the speeds etc. I just hope that 100% 24/7 doesn't shorten it's life darastically.) XDXD

What core you got? And mine usually sit around 32-36 idle and under load (100% on both cores) they read about 62-65 each, that when I turn it off because my PC throws a wobler at me and starts buzzing. I might just turn that alarm up to 70C. - -;;
The fan I have it better than the stock fan, so I'd presume the stock cooler goes to about 70C+. This tells me that the CPU can probs handle temps of about 70-75, but that'd be risky. And does anyone know what teh Tjunction temp is for? Mine is always 85C, apparently thats what it is for C2D

6600 is what i have (with a zalman 9500 cooler on it)
the cooler isn't running at 100% unless under full load though

Thats easy to sort. What motherboard you got? And I think it's the same with most board (correct me if I'm wrong) just change the Fan Settings in BIOS to Legacy and PWM (Thats for the GA-965P-DS3 board, but I presume it's practically the same for most boards)
Also, it seems that even when I up the bus speed, my temps still sit around the same as when at stock. Maybe I could get this higher. (although... I haven't upped the volts yet , that'll pack out some heat. >.>;; )

Are you sure you applied the thermal paste correctly because my 6300 @ 2.8Ghz sits at about 40 idle and 45 under load. That was running superpi 32M which takes 19 mins.
I have the same fan but my case is very well ventillated i.e. I cut a massive hole in the side panel. and blow cooler air directly into the path of the cpu fan intake.
