Ok, so I have a tube of Thermal Compound (Heatsink Compound) says its

"High Thermal Conductivity Zinc Oxide filled Silicone compound which prodvides excelent heat transfer between semiconductor devices and heatsinks.
Conductivity 17x10^-4 cal/cm sec°C
Volume Resistivity 2x10^15 ohm.cm at 20°C
To ensure good heat transfer, smear compound on all mating surfaces."


Ok, thats the tube guidlines, makes barely any sence to me. The main questions are...

1. Is this likely to be better than the compound supplied with the Zalman 9500

2. Can I use sergical spirit in replacement of rubbing alcohol when reapplying grease to CPU (I presume I wipe both CPU and Heatsink

3. Can anyone give me a good and correct example of how the compound should be spread.

just spread i thin layer all over your cpu.just a little less tha half a tube should be plenty.

I did put a thin layer over it last time, but it had lines in it from where I used a credit card. >.>;;

Would that make alot of difference?

And can I use surgial spirit to clean the CPU instead of Rubbing Alcohol? OR is that not a good idea. o.o

Could my CPU core temps be varying quite differently because I didn't apply the grease right? I usually see Core Temps

Core #0 - 37°C
Core #1 - 34°C

When my PC is doing nothing at all and has been left alone for 30 mins sometimes longer. I thought they'd usually sit closer? It's more noticable at higher temps though.

I would presume these results are because one is under more stress than the other so Core #0 would be handling windows etc and Core #1 would be just completely Idle?

Wow... I opened to case door (Thermaltake Soprano Case Door, not Side Door) and the 120mm fan can actually pull air through now. Damn that cooled it down a treat

Maybe at a later date I'll add a second 90mm fan to the side of the case.

Either way, now my Northbridge is running at 35°C (Passive heatsink) compared to the 47 with door closed and CPU is cooler by about 10°C under ORTHOS load and 5°C under TAT 100% load. :twisted::twisted:
