have you reset the bios?

Yup done..

Sata ports...well erm the ports... (Not a clue....last comp I built didn;t have Satas, a lot fo new stuff in it  )

So I guess it could be a way I've wired it up....

But he says he has reset the BIOS here?

As for error message...something along the lines of cannot find NTLDR, mine never did that.

From first build it did what Exox's did,

Posted, then came up with the name of my DVD drive and said press a key, if I did or left it it just went blank and hung same way. I was expecting an error message at forst confused me as well.

Oh and if you cant get to BIOS its defineltly the delete key so if your holding that down from boot, then yep keyboard problem is possible.

Also just another though occured, have you tried swapping the port your keyboard is in assuming its USB, just to check its not a dodgy port, or one that doesnt start until the computers past post.

Reset the BIOS by taking the bettery out.

It is exaclty like what your saying you had. :) (But does it for HDDs unless I remove them......then it does it for the DVD-RW)

I'm going to fiddle around with it again later on this afternoon/tonight and try the things mentioned here. :)

Have you tried installing the OS? or changing the BIOS to point to DVD drive first?

Edit it probably goes to the HDD first becuase defualt boot order is something l;ike a: drive, primary HD, secondary HD, DVD drive.

I can't get into BIOS.....

I've tried rebooting with OS disc in...mobo disc in...etc.

Just about to start work on it soon.

Now this may not have anything to do with his but would the jumpers have anything to do with it, i remember having to change jumpers due to conflicts e.g. two masters on two hdds.

maybe im point out the obvious here but its worth a shot

Unplug all ur sata drives (including dvd-rw) and boot it, if you can get into bios thern something is wrong with the sata configuration

If you still cant im guessing that the CPU is causeing the board to have issues, which will mean you need to update the BIOS on the board. This of course is going to be hard unless u have another socket 775 processor lying aroud?

This is quite a ommon problem with new boards where they ship with a BIOS that can't run the latest chips even though they say they support them. Hence why they provide bios updates :)

Let me know

Maybe if the boards an older model but if it was produced about the same time as mine that board is definetly compatible with that chip.

Yeah but surely you would still be able to get into the bios even if the computer won't boot?

You'd think so wouldnt u

Had a 975xbk motherboard from gigabyte last year, and popped a intel chip in there that was supposed to work and it wouldnt boot. similar to the problems listed here.

Had to stick an older chip in there to flash the BIOS and then it worked fine.

Ok, longshot here (not sure if it'll actually work), but you can take your CPU out and try to switch it on and access the bios, you should be able to change the settings and possibly update the BIOS.

Like I said, I'm not sure it'll work without the CPU installed, but I guess it's possible or at least worth a try. > . >;

BUT

Before doing that, try this:

I'm going to try the cpu thingsfor one last go...if that doesn't work then I'm going to try and get a Computer Technition look at it.....

As for the DOS thing....I can't get into DOS, I start computer up and it goes more or less straight to the screen saying HDD and DVD RW detected, blah blah press any key to continue.....then cuts off after 3 seconds or if you press a key.

I can't get into anything.....nowt at all.
