I (will) have two inputs and two outputs (twin phono and 3.5mm in, twin phono and 6.3mm out)...I'm going to bodge a switchbox together, but if I want to be able to connect one or both inputs to one output, or one input to one output and the other input to the other output...do I need to put anything in to stop the signals going the wrong way, or will I be safe just individually switching each one (three way switch on the inputs, out1, out2 or off)
cheers

only problem your likely to have is the lack of a mixer to balance the signals if/when they are both recording or playing at one time - and potentially overloading / distorting the input/output. everything will be (i presume) at line level, so it will be fine if your just switching - it's only summing that will cause issues.
If i understand this is for a computer???? if so, then it's two soundcards? In which case, far better to use a software mixer really. less ad/da conversion going on - if you want hardware control of it and fancy a project make a usb or midi controller switch to select the config - not many buttons so not a massive project .
it gets a bit more complicated if your talking about making an in-line mixer in your switcher.
my mates a dude at all this, if you're more specific i'll ask him / think more myself.

Ahh, good point...that just made it a whole lot more complicated. Probs not worth bothering with for the moment then
Cheers anyway

ohh...looks good...
its nothing special, just for hooking up whatever outputs I have to whatever inputs I'll have next year...but those mixers look like they could be pretty nice
