Dropped my external HDD the other day, and now it wont pick it up when I connect it to the usb ports.

On startup it makes a noise which sounds like the heads are scanning back and forth, but I'm not sure that the actual hard drive is spinning

After this I get the "du-dung!" noise which means windows has found a usb device, but I cant see anything under my computer, but when I turned it of I get the noise for "usb thing disconnected"

If its completely b0rked I'm screwed, cant sent it to repair even if it is still under warrenty if you know what I mean.

Any ideas welcome.

Try it in a diffrent computer.. thats the only thing i can think of. :S

maybe find drivers manually for it insted of letting 'doze doing it

Mate of mine had stuff on it e.g. music when his borked he sent it and got one double the size, i think you'l be safe.

Just ownage.

unscrew it and its a normal ide drive - stry in install it and see what happens
if its still doing it hit it with a hammer to unpark the heads

However he didnt tell me he had dropped it, now i understand why its buggered lol.

Do what slaps says mate, although maybe not the hammer one unless its a last resort!
