Recently decided to install linux again after many failed occasions streecting back 8 years.

Ubuntu 7.04 64bit looks nice installs great, loving the cube, Hard lockups no thankyou.

The machine I put it on has had winXP on it, runs with out a problem with Folding@Home maxing out the cpu. Runs Win2003 server no problems, it even ran vista RC1 no problems minus all the (count them 2) shiny bits. Memory test has no problems after an hour of running.

But ubuntu runs for a random amount of time then hard locks. Searching the forums has yielded a problem that may be related to keyboards and ps2 being the culpruit but you'd think they'd get this right. Have tried to update but it locks everytime. Running it in recovery mode is no problem but my linux command line skills are rubbish.

Will try to solve the problem but it looks like ive been thwarted again.

If you dont need nfs then uninstall it

switch to root (su) then do "/sbin/apt info | grep nfs", no quotes. this will tell you the names of the nfs modules to uninstall, it might be the ones below, if not jsut replace the nfs-common with the package names and uninstall as below.

"apt uninstall nfs-common" and "apt uninstall nfs-kernel-server"

Well i tried various things and would you know it its a ram issue or a ram Mb combo related issue because i took a stick out and its running fine. Memory test ran fine for a few hours with both in so I thought what could possibly make it go wrong just typing in your password to casue ram to lock your system up. The ram works fine in another motherboard and runs fine in this machine running folding as i have said b4 oh well looks like ill have to live with 512

Anyways its looking good and am halfway to installing myth tv to see if I cant make a nice media server and pvr for recording freeview shows.
Just need a flatscreen tv and a quiet power supply and ill be sweet
