Ok I should be getting my e4400 tomorrow, how do I correctly apply the Thermal paste to it??
Now I thought it was meant to be like this; (The red line indicates how the thermal paste should be applied)
But Rainbow Dave just said that on his one 'it was a circle, like a jaffa cake middle bit circle.' contrary to my line in middle theory , anyway so I'm confused as to which is better and stuff now so anyone know which is best?

so I guess you're using an old heatsink?
just get a tiny blob, about the same size as a lentil in the middle, make sure your heatsink is spotless (white spirit and cotton buds) and thwack it on, easy as

Using Zalman 9500 heatsink, and alright I may do that, we'll see what others say

the heatsink should be smooth enough that it won't pick any up, but run it over with a swanky cloth at the end.

In the end I just used my t-shirt to clean it, shoved the thermal paste on the cpu in a dodgey line, and put the heatsink on.
hope it works for more than 3 months this time *fingers crossed*
