Ok I should be getting my e4400 tomorrow, how do I correctly apply the Thermal paste to it??

Now I thought it was meant to be like this; Image (The red line indicates how the thermal paste should be applied)

But Rainbow Dave just said that on his one 'it was a circle, like a jaffa cake middle bit circle.' contrary to my line in middle theory :? , anyway so I'm confused as to which is better and stuff now so anyone know which is best?

so I guess you're using an old heatsink?

just get a tiny blob, about the same size as a lentil in the middle, make sure your heatsink is spotless (white spirit and cotton buds) and thwack it on, easy as

the heatsink should be smooth enough that it won't pick any up, but run it over with a swanky cloth at the end.

In the end I just used my t-shirt to clean it, shoved the thermal paste on the cpu in a dodgey line, and put the heatsink on.

hope it works for more than 3 months this time *fingers crossed*
