I know you well enough to know that in the end you will have both... LOL. With the prices on the XBox360 going down just in time for your birthday get that one first. Perhaps, by the time you're ready for the change Sony will have worked out the bugs on the PS3 and dropped the price a bit on that. In the long run, however, I think you will be happier with PS3.

Already got a decent pc
SLi Graphics (and a true 16x 16x Motherboard, so that both Graphics run at 16x )
Dual Core (im an AMD person not Intell... otherwise i would have a Quad)
Dual Channel Memory... etc...etc..

I could well have both by my B-day but i want to enjoy one for now.
Seems i may just get an Xbox360, However i find something laughable about the new 360 coming out in a few days... and that is... The only major differances between the new one and the old one is Its been added with a HDMI slot so it can produce full 1080p resolutions (which i might add.. the PS3 can do this anyway ) And the next upgrade is it now comes with a 120 Gig HDD. The old Xbox360 could only hit Resolutions of 1080i and came with a 60Gig HDD was it ? or maybe a lil less not sure.
Oh and a downfall to the Xbox360 is that you cant play HD-DVD's straight from the Box which is a let-down. As you will have to spend an extra £129 for the HD-Player (add-on).

Anyway after some helpfull comments it seems the right choice for now would be an Xbox360 as there are games out and the Live i hear is second to none, And of course a price drop (i hear its.... £179 = Core.....£249 = Premium) So for games i think Xbox360... but maybe if ya a movie Buff and want a nice HD player (HD-DVD or BLU-RAY) then i think once you buy the Xbox360 and the HD-Player... then the price isnt too differant from the PS3.... Hmmmmm
