thats wireless networking for you I'm afraid - if you wanted it to be easy you should have got a mac
but seriously - belkin aren't bad, its what you're trying to do that's needlessly complicated. its not your fault, nor belkin's, but microsofts

I've got a belkin adapter and it works perfectly, good company. You sure you're using it properly?

do Not get berklin.
If its just the receiver you need then go for
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellit ... 5039789B05
I found them very good, I use one in the car and it can pick up networks from over 500 m away that none of my other pc's can even see
