Ok... so I'm trying to install windows and all of a sudden I get an error that says it can't find the hard drive... never had this issue before.
Is there anyway that I can place the drivers onto a USB stick and grab the drivers from that as I don't have a floppy drive... otherwise I'll have to go through the long process of making a new windows disc with the drivers on it etc...

before installing windows, attempt to insert your MOBO disk instead, and select some driver install (or it may do it automatically). It's been a while since i've done it, but my windows install never found my HDD alone (sata connected), but inserting the mobo disk first (asus) and booting up to let it do it's thang, then trying the windows disk, worked

I think you need a floppy disk for the SATA drivers, unless you can put the SATA controller into a different mode in the BIOS and make it look like an IDE controller It won't make any difference to the speed of it as far as I've seen. XP is coded to only look on A: and B: for additional drivers during the OS install.

Its a laptop using the ACHI apparently... (well, from what I've read on Novatech's website...) apprently you can get third party drivers to run the hard drive and I can't actually change the settings in the BIOS because its a Laptop crappy BIOS. No idea what mobo it is, don't have a USB Floppy drive, tried inserting the driver CD before to see if it'd do anything the hard-drive is Western Digital (website currently down) and I'm just about fed up with this... thinking of sending it back. Kinda shame cause I was after a laptop, got one for XMas and it doesn't fit the bill (even though I picked it out...) Also I have no idea where or how to install these ACHI drivers... As you can guess... I'm kinda cheesed off right now... Concidering they did actually sell this laptop with Windows XP installed previously... they claim its specifically designed for Vista, but I don't like that for reasons which can be understood by most...

Sorry, assumed that installing meant a build your own version...

Well I managed to make myself a custom CD with the drivers for it, so it just pulled them straight off the disc. Woo go me. (And nLite programmers for making it easy. )
