i use four 80gig hdd's 7200rpm in a 2x2 striped raid ? 1 stripe for the system OS (vista X64) and 1 for game installs.
you dont need super fast mem unless you going to overclock by miles , i have a E6600 2.4ghzx2 running overclocked at 3.2ghz with crucial ballistix tracer 800 ram 4x1gb the CPU FSB is set at 1422 with the ram set 712 with ram at 800 i could set FSB at 1600 which would give me cpu 3.6ghz, but i dont think the 680i chipset likes it , current desktop temp = 40c, in game max i've seen so far 58c.
i use an Asus striker extreme mobo with a XFX 8800GTX XT graphic gard with the above cpu and ram.

Thanks Flatline. No i havn't bought the parts yet. Still waiting for the CPU to be released. They're saying tomorrow but we will see. Im in no rush atm. Cos im on shifts. finish tomorrow though. I had a look at yer stuff, Think i will go with the q9450. Will read some about the ram as the Gskill and Corsair are around the same prices. Not going to go for the raptor anymore. Everyone says they never even noticed the difference. so what the point. GFX card ill do some reading about. As the GT's are cheaper even though the GTX's only give an extra 5% fps. :S not really sure its worth it. Ill have a read about the motherboard tomorrow. As i liked the one i picked above cos its simple, nothing added to it. Dont need on board sound and all that as i have a sound card. But will see. And finally, the PSU thing everyone has been telling me. there round about the same price the 2 PSU's whats wrong with having a bit more power. For later upgrades? :S Or is the corsair just that excelentttteeee Thanks.

get crucial ballistix...end of the cpu you want is a waste of money when you can have one that does the same thing for loads less. the thing about psu's is that you want a proven top quality psu thats not gonna take you parts out if it blows.ill find the psu ranking board for ya so you can take a look are you planning on overclocking at all? or running benhmarks?

Crucial Ballistix was the ram i was going to go for but it was more when i was looking at it. Recently dropped? Well i'v been posting on the overclockers forums alot and they have all said for the q9450. Its only about 50more. (price on overclockers is the preorder price.) It runs cool and has better cache. Do you have the Q6600? Or you planning to upgrade to it? Right noted on the PSU, but i was just cooling at something about 700+ seeing as the GFX need over 600? But i suppose 620 is over 600 I will get a good investagation sometime. Thanks for the advise flatty. You'll regret it when i take yer arse in COD4

i have a q6600 go that oc's to 3.2 without changing any volts stays cool but im on h2o,even with the ultra 120 they stay really cool when oc'd. i have a similar system to the one i quoted bar the mobo and 2gig less ram,the psu is more than enough and thats with 5 120mm fans and 2 h20 pumps.ppl run rigs like mine on the 520hx because they are top quality. i would keep the raptor to as they are the pwn, windows boots real fast and games load quicker to browse around here while you choose your parts as ppl are always asking what to buy. http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/
