This may be too late but with HP products, there is a product code for the laptop. Diff models (dv9000, dv 9700) have diff codes.
For example:
My very old lappy (that does the job until I get another one [or have one donated
]) is a HP Omnibook XE3L on the inside but, on the bottom, it tells a slightly different story.
This says Ominbook XE3 but, on the HP website, there are many XE3 models, variants, etc.
So, it was only when I found the product code, is when I got EXACT drivers, etc:
For this lappy, it's F2331W.
You prolly have tried this but this has saved me countless hours with trial and error.
If that don't work, you could always install Vista Basic
(hope it's got 2Gb RAM min and a gfx card WITH dedicated ram ) as M$ have stopped supplying XP to retail outlets. Of course, support won't stop for a few years yet, so, just lump it will ya?
(Unless u can have a word to Ballmer or something
)
Hope it helps!
