last week 1 of my 500gb harddrives died. i sent it away and it turned out to be faulty. they sent me a new one i formatted it into 2 harddrives, 15gb and 405gb. since this i have been having a slow boot every now and then. (being this morning it wouldnt boot after about 5 minute wait)
i have also been having problem with my other 500gb HDD (same make, bought at the same time) where it can load up with the computer but for no reason will shut off and wont show up in my computer, i then restart and it does nothing, still doesnt appear, so i turned it off and unplugged the power cable, put it back in and loaded up and it worked.
im wonder, as i bought them both at the same time and they had the same namecode in bios when i both had them. could it be possible that the 2nd 500gb hdd could be faulty as well?

Sounds more like a dodgy SATA interface on the Motherboard. Tried different cables as well? Have you tried looking in the event log as well? -Right click my computer then select manage. -Double click event viewer then select system. -In the discription section look for anything that says DISK. -If you find one and it has a red circle X then double click it to read the info. And do you use the chipset driver (motherboard driver) rather than the default windows one?

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. for warning Quote: An error was detected on device during a paging operation. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. i have errors for the 17th and 18th... some of which say harddrive0 some say harddrive1 and some dont give me a place...

Have you tried the replaced drives in other machines? As you bought BOTH in the same time, it's more than likely that the batch from the factory was shite. Just because the drives have been replaced, doesn't mean that they are good. I would test with a known good SATA drive in the machine to test interface. Just a curious thought - does the BIOS ACTUALLY support 500Gb hard drives?

Just a curious thought - does the BIOS ACTUALLY support 500Gb hard drives? i tried putting my 200gb hdd from my other pc and it loaded but wouldnt load XP (guessing because its just trying to load my single core drivers, mobo drivers etc for my old pc when my new pc is dual and different mobo with the fact it is PCIe and not agp like my old one...) i only got the 1 changed as my other 500gb didnt give out as my primary one did... but i did try and put my 2nd 500gb hdd into my old pc... and it wouldnt load... BUT my old pc mobo is on its way out i think... wont hold 2 HDD's (my 3rd hdd in this pc used to be in the old pc) and it wont run 2 ram sticks... but the bios should support 500gb hdd's...

Easiest way to test if its the SATA controller (and least expensive and troubleless), get a PCI-E SATA controller and run from that for a while. If that works, then replace the mobo.

its late so this will probably make no sense at all
you didnt install the 15.23 mobo drivers did you?
and in the bios you havent set up that drive as sata 1,2 or 3 have you?
i've recently had issues surrounding the new mobo drivers
and made the mistake of adding it to the sata controller in the bios, as i have a raid 0 setup, it wanted me to add the drive to a raid config, which i didnt want
so i took it off the controller in the bios and now its fine & dandy (probably not the way to do it, but)

im back agian with this problem my pc hasnt quite died just yet but keeps coming up with write errors/failures and lags out, hasnt crashed quite yet but its on its way to... ive replaced the mobo this time around to the asus p5q (from the p5k) and also changed the power plug from the psu to a molex connector with a adapter on it to a sata power cable and its been working fine since my last post in here... but now its started reappearing, and seeing as we discussed it could either be my psu or my mobo, and ive replaced my mobo, im assuming this time round i will have to replace my psu to test this out? it only seem to happen after a few months (though it did end up being days till i replaced mobo and changed the power cable for another)

are your sata cables the ones that are angled at 90*?
i sometimes get the fail to boot, usually after pissing around inside, i have a habit of knocking the leads out of the drives, everytime i put the side back on, keep meaning to buy the 90* ones :/
