OK, I received the ram from Coolman today (thanks coolman!) but my pc won't give a display when it is installed.
Now, I've read the manual for the motherboard and it says that it doesn't support the 1066mhz ram, but after mucho google time, people all over the place are using it quite happily.
What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do make it work?

Motherboard is an Asus P5N-E SLi and the ram is OCZ2N1066SR2GK DDR2 8500.
Any clues what I'm doing wrong? (or not doing in the first place)

And yes, I've tried single stick, 2 stick, using at same time as old ram etc... but to no avail......

Fingers crossed someone can help me!!!

Just a guess.. if it's not officially supported by the board, you may need to go into the BIOS and manually set up the memory settings that would normally be done automatically if it was supported, like set the speed, timings etc.. :?

Or maybe look on the Asus website and see if there's a BIOS update that will allow the RAM to be supported?

Can be tricky though, make sure you know how to reset the BIOS before you try anything in there!

Well, I've updated the bios to one of the later versions, but there's still no support.
Not gained a thing unfortunately in that respect, and I'd tried setting timings etc.. beforehand.

I suspect its something to do with the voltage. Did you manually set 2.1 volts? Timings are 5-5-5? Are they these? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/120453

Can't you manuall overide the bios settings so the memory runs at a slower speed?

The memory should be good as its been in my gamerig for over a year, but i have found that motherboards are getting very picky about memory lately.
The memory i put into macones pc works fine in it, but it wouldnt even boot in my htpc.
I also have 2 gigs of dominator memory which wouldnt work in macones pc, but will work fine in my game rig, even though they are the sam spec,

Use your old memory to boot to bios and set dram voltage to 2.1v i think default is 1.8v which wont be enough to run it

Can you try it in a different pc?

I doubt all 4 sticks would be blown.
Fyi the memory is 4 gigs of
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2N1066SR2GK

from here:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprod ... =MY-082-OC

hope it helps

do overclockers still have a forum? Link your mobo type, and all the rest of the gubbins in a post for help there - with link to memory, and ask for help.

Last time I had bought something from there an asked a question (admittedly about 5 years back) they were bloody helpful (not employees, just random folks).

The memory that was in there to begin with isn't as fast, but I've tried using only 1 stick etc... so I don't think that the amount of ram is the problem mate, really bugging me! lol
