Works ok 'ish in aol browser,but is fecked in firefox

Forgot, with AOL there's a connection max mtu size or something along those lines.

Try going into your router, and then to "WAN setup".
Change MTU size to 1400 (which is what mine is set at).

Try that :P

This was relevant with AOL itself, not sure with CPW

As for sigs, that could be a browser setting which stops images and other things that are not from the domain from being loaded? Different sub domains for forum/sigs?

MTU was set to 1492 changed it to 1400 and no change?
