Because I can't start a poll, here are the questions: 1. 32 or 64 bit of which OS? 2. How does it affect your gaming? 3. Any performance hits/benefits? 4. Any problems/issues/nags/etc that you want to mention about either or? And yes, my rig can handle 32 and 64 bit OS' and can go over the 2Gb RAM barrier (aka The old Coolman rig   ) EDIT - I CAN SEE ONE

Vista 64 with 8Gb and everything runs very smoothly  Not really had an issue with it - other than UpTempo not supporting 64bit OSes, TF2 crashes when I exit, but thats more a Vista problem lol

it depends on what os you are using, there is a 4 gig limit on xp 32 and vista 32 i think, but that has to include video memory as well.
so if you have 4 gigs of ram and a 1 gig video card, then you will only be using 3 gigs of your ram.
it wasnt such a problem till video cards started coming out with up to 2 gigs of video memory. i have 2.75 gigs of available ram because of my 2 gig 4870x2 on xp, but the full 4 gigs is available on the windows 7 install on the same pc.
also each service running uses some ram, which you can see in task manager which is also substracted from your usable ram.

My only real reason to support a 64bit OS is that how long do we want to stand still for?
Sticking with a 32bit system is hardly going to get programmers to bother exploring any new benefits of a 64bit system if no bugger is using them.

But then again, I also *thought* xp x86 had 2Gb RAM limit  Just so you know, it's a C2D 2.66GHz CPU (FBS 1066MHz), Dual GeForce 8800GTX 768Mb (non-SLI as it's ONE card ), 2Gb RAM (800MHz), 750Gb 16Mb cache SATA HDD. Would go 4Gb RAM (1066MHz) if I went x64.

think i'll patch up windows 7 64 bit and see if they got it working a bit better, even at beta its still better then vista

If you emphasise too many points that don't require emphasis, you actually negate the point of emphasising them as people don't take notice of each individually emphasised point  (yay, emphasise, emphasis, emphasised, emphasising - that's four!!)

And I think you ALREADY know the answer about if I tried it or not  But wasn't Vista like this on beta too? I'm sorry, I'm just VERY cynical when it comes to M$ and it's "beta testing". Spose I've done the beta thing in the past and got burnt. Also (generally speaking), their upgrade path from beta to final release version has been reformat the machine. I understand M$ are going to make that path easier but why? So you don't have to reformat and start again? That answer depends IF you like a new OS to have a clean install. And my definition on a clean install is the final release on a newly formatted hard drive. There's cruft in betas... hence, why it's beta Somethings get deleted, added and/or just left In conclusion (Chips' style ), the only decent rig I have is either my one or my wife P4 3GHz S478 pc. IF I had another C2D rig laying about then yes, I'd try it. But NOT willing to put a beta onto a "production machine" (if you will).
