Sounds more like a dodgy SATA interface on the Motherboard. Tried different cables as well? Have you tried looking in the event log as well? -Right click my computer then select manage. -Double click event viewer then select system. -In the discription section look for anything that says DISK. -If you find one and it has a red circle X then double click it to read the info. And do you use the chipset driver (motherboard driver) rather than the default windows one?

if its a dodgy mobo that would be 2 of them.. cuz i replaced the mobo between when this last happened and now... i tried cables that come with the mobo so they changed as well... i think atm i have the motherboard drivers on here... but on the last mobo it changed between each bugger up... in event viewer it just come up with the same as last time im sensing some issues here :/

Have you tried the replaced drives in other machines? As you bought BOTH in the same time, it's more than likely that the batch from the factory was shite. Just because the drives have been replaced, doesn't mean that they are good. I would test with a known good SATA drive in the machine to test interface. Just a curious thought - does the BIOS ACTUALLY support 500Gb hard drives?

Just a curious thought - does the BIOS ACTUALLY support 500Gb hard drives? it stuffed up once before and putting it in my dads pc sorted it... but he doesnt have a spare hdd slot atm so i cant put it back in there again... the first one that stuffed up... was replaced 6 times... the one that stuffed this time... is my 2nd harddrive which has survived from the beginning... so its the first cock up its made... yea it does support them. have already looked :/
