Ok so i've got my new computer all set up specs as follows...
-Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail
-XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 1024MB Graphics Card
-G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM)
-Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Retail (Full Version)
-Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Motherboard
-Corsair VX 550W ATX Power Supply (CMPSU-550VXUK)
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS)
But when i turn it on only the fans on the case and the phase led on the motherboard seem to come on. Also when i turn it off a little light on the graphics card flashes briefly. i massively need help here and any suggestions as to what can be done would be incredibly appreciated.
Also none of the inputs outside the pc seem to be working so i have no display no working usb etc etc

any post sound? possibly cpu not seated... anyway.... take out ya gfx card..... see if it powers atall or post beeps if not..take out ya memory.... if not.... disconnect ya drive.... its all a matter of elimination..... you can remove all.... power on...see if the cpu fan spins up...you;ll get a beep almost immeadiatly signifying no memory... look for our bios beep codes here http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm_________________   Went to a zoo, they only had one animal there, a dog............. My guess would be a bad connection or short. It should get to the bios. Are you sure there's not any motherboard mounting pins shorting the motherboard somewhere, and basically what Nicey says, are all the components are seated correctly and CPU fan ok? Going by http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp and my best guess what you got you'd need about 425Watts to power up, the i5 is more efficent than the core2's and the Corsair VX series are pretty good at producing the wattage they show on the label. But as also as Nicey says... elimination is the game, I've had the similar thing on a lot of my builds and I've always sorted it out without sending anything back. _________________

Cpu fan is now spinning and red led on the graphics card flashes every now and then....still no output on the screen though =( and all other input/ output ports aren't working....making some progress there though

did you install the cpu yourself.... and spread the thermal paste yaself? try reseat it.... no beeps yet??.... other than take the whole thing to bits and rebuild.....it could be a faulty cpu if nothing happens then..........  _________________ Went to a zoo, they only had one animal there, a dog............. Nope no beeps, although i havn't got any source for sound so.....?
i did put in the cpu myself with the thermal paste ill retry and see what happens
nope, no such luck

Wouldn't the bios still come up if the CPU was broke, or it would at least bleep? Make sure all the little leads are the correct sockets as well, LS, HD led, reset switch. Oh yeah video card has two power inputs, it needs both on on different rails. _________________

you havent mixed up the 6 or 8 pin motherboard power connector, with the 6 or 8 pin pcie power connector for the video card, they look identical, but they are not

Well what I found: HD4870 LEDs: (Yours isn't far off so is maybe the same) D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed D1603 - Red LED On, shows External power connector B was removed D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault Is the Fan on the Video card working? Also: CTF is a Critical Temperature Fault on D1601 which can be triggered by an inadequate PSU or GPU overheating .. _________________

Found the 4890, it is different. Quote: Diagnostic LED meanings for the HD4890 card ...
D601: VDDC_FAULT (VDD is the labelling for a Intigrated circuits positive power supply pin and the C stands for Core)
D1601: critical temperature fault
D1602: AUX Hot Plug/Unplug Fault (upper connector)
D1603: AUX Hot Plug/Unplug Fault (lower connector) Have you tried an older PCI-E video card in the system if you got one? _________________
